View Full Version : Samsung Digital TV TX-T2082 Lost DTV Channels
cyclernyc 11-13-08, 11:57 AM I bought a Samsung Digital TV (TX-T2082 20") in March and because I don't want cable I use an antenna which is a signal booster. I bought the best one that they had and it worked great on both the analog and digital options for the channels. Some channels weren't ready yet but I did get most of them and the reception was perfect.
3 weeks ago I put the TV on and there were no digital channels. All I got was the message "No Signal". The antenna was working because it did change the reception when I moved it when it was on analog.
I unplugged the TV to bring it back to "factory" status and I also unplugged the antenna to re-set it.
I did a scan and - nothing. All of the channels were there on analog but nothing on digital.
I called Samsung and they told me to do what I had already done and I called the local stations to see if it was something there but it wasn't.
The channels are there, as I said, they are viewable in analog but in the DTV mode it says "no signal". No matter where I move the antenna or how I adjust it there is no signal.
I've been scanning every day but there is still no DTV reception.
I called Samsung and since I am still in Warranty they will repair it if it is the TV but there are no service places in NYC at all so I am looking to get one of their authorized repair people to come to me.
Another question - it occurred to me that if the Digital receiver is somehow not working on my TV then the set became an analog TV and if I use a converter box then that ought to give me the signal - right?
Thanks!
Make sure you have Auto Program set for Air not Cable. Yes, you can connect a DTV converter box. That would fully verify the antenna is good. If antenna good, Samsung should fix that set for you, warranties are short. Can you hook antenna to friend's or relatives Digital TV as a test?
cyclernyc 11-16-08, 01:06 PM Yes, I am using Air for the scan. Oddly, the last scan that I did it didn't recognize channel 7 (ABC) but I am able to add it manually.
It has a one year warranty so I am definitely going to see if they are able to fix it. They did call me and tell me that a new authorized repair place had opened very close to where I am so I am going to talk to them.
Samsung won't pay for an in-home repair but I'm not sure if taking the TV in will let them see what's wrong since it's scanning at my location. If the repair people won't charge too much it might be better for them to come to me.
About the antenna, I am pretty much the only one who doesn't get cable so there is no where to test it but I know that it is working.
Are there any UHF Analog channels (above 13) coming in clearly? If so, I'd agree the antenna is OK.
cyclernyc 11-17-08, 11:37 AM Only 13 comes in very clearly. I also lost decent reception on 21 and 31 which weren't great in the first place.
Maybe try a new antenna that could be returned? Might be easier than moving the TV or waiting for a tech.
cyclernyc 11-17-08, 08:53 PM I spoke to someone at the repair place today. They don't do in-home so I will need to take it there. And someone from Samsung called today to see if I had scheduled the repair - they told me to get it done as soon as possible so I won't be able to wait to get another antenna to test it.
It's annoying to need to take it there but it is still in warranty so it won't cost me anything.
cyclernyc 11-20-08, 12:34 PM It's fixed! (well, mostly).
Well, it turns out that it was the antenna but not in the way that anyone (including me) thought!
I was all set to shlep the TV to the repair place on Friday but last night when I changed the channel I had to move the antenna for better reception and the directional piece fell out! I never considered that it might've been loose because it is a very tight fit but I guess somehow it worked it's way out. So I turned off the TV and the antenna and unplugged everything and then plugged it all back in.
When I did the scan at first it looked the same when it was scanning the DTV channels but then I noticed that as it went through some of the channel numbers changed color and when it finished - there it was! DTV channels!
The only issue remaining is the one that I had in the first place before I "lost" the DTV reception - I'm still not getting NBC (channel 4 in NYC) on DTV. They won't return my calls at the local station.
Thank you for all of your responses!
xraffle 11-20-08, 06:09 PM cyclernyc: This has nothing to do with your question, but I have this same TV and I have a question for you. Do you experience any flickering of any kind on your set? You know, some minor unsteadiness in the picture. I have this problem and I'm wondering if other people have the same issue as well.
cyclernyc 11-20-08, 06:22 PM When it's on the DTV the picture freezes and breaks until I move the antenna "just right" but I don't think that I've ever noticed flickering. I will pay attention to that tonight when I watch TV and I'll let you know.
What sort of antenna are you using?

I don't use any antenna. I watch cable using the composite source and I watch DVDs using the component source. They all flicker, most noticeably when the picture cuts from a bright to dark picture.
I appreciate your help. Let me know if you notice any flickering after watching tonight.
Thanks.
It was the Antenna:cool: Too bad, no DTV Channel 4. Maybe you are in a spot where there just isn't a signal receivable. If you moved the antenna a lot, you might get lucky. I live only 5 miles from my local signals, but 2 out of 5 Digital channels are very hard to receive.
