Hello, I have an HC1500 and love watching movies and playing PS3 games through it, today I upgraded my cable to digital hidef and am running cable to the DVR receiver, then HDMI to my Yamaha receiver, and from there HDMI to the projector and it looks very foggy and not bright. I have a regular standard def TV hooked up right below and that is 100 times better, any ideas? There is no light in the room either. The PJ says it is running it at 480p.

Thank you in advance

HD Cable receivers only play HD on the HD channels ;)
...and even then some programs are not always 1080i/720p

Have you watched any live sporting events on an HD dedicated feed yet?

No sporting events, just hooked up today. I have the PJ on a hidef channel and the tv with standard def on the same channel and i guess the tv is just brighter. but when on a non hi def channel the pj is very blurry, is that just the way it is? I am new to the PJ experience so i appreciate the help.

The PJ says it is running it at 480p.

If the PJ is on a HD channel, it should not read 480 that's not HD,
it should read 720p or 1080i

When viewing non HD content (480) on a display that has pixels 4X larger than your TV, naturally the image quality is going to be worse on the larger display.
Pixel density (number of pixels per square inch) makes the smaller display look better.

However a True HD 1080i broadcast should look substantially better than a 480 broadcast on your smaller TV

I'm sorry, it is on HGTV and says 1080i, the biggest thing is the brightness, just looks like im looking through a dirty window....300 hrs on lamp.

I will keep messing with it, thank you Pio

I had the same experience with my satellite box, directv h20; and the picture it looked just like you mentioned, like blurry window, foggy mirror type of image. My difference is that I'm using component cables. I changed the cables from the satellite box to the receiver and like night and day picture. Now the picture quality is amazing on the HD channels and OK on SD channels.

Check all your interconnections and cables, they don't have to be expensive but they need to be in good condition and of good quality.

Does your tuner's on screen display say it is 1080i or the projector's? On some cable boxes you have to change the settings to output at HD resolutions. It may be in a menu or may be a switch on the back.

It says it on the pJ menu, It does look good on HD stations, but the colrs just dont seem very bright, i have been messing with the settings but havent found the answer yet, looked at the settings on the box and they are correct. Thank you.

Just to restate the obvious - you have a problem. HD channels should look brighter, sharper and have more vibrant colors. I also have the HC1500 and the picture quality difference is huge between HD and SD channels.

My guess (and it's only a guess) is that either your cable box is bad or your cables are defective. HD should be stunning and definitely NOT foggy.

There is a huge difference between the standard and HD channels, I am just trying to get more brightness now I think. I have a little 27" that has a brighter pic and the colors jump out at you more than my PJ and that is SD.

I have been trying the settings on the pj but just cant seem to get it, maybe i should reset to default settings? Then im afraid it would look worse because I used somebody elses settings from here and thought it looked better than defaul.....lol, I will figure this out, thank you all for the input!

If you are playing HD (BD) Movies and Games through your PS3 to your projector and it looks good, its not your projector.

Is everything connected via HDMI or Component...or <gasp> composite video cables?

Did you try removing the Yamaha AVR from the loop and going straight to your PJ?

Something is degrading your signal, once you find something that works well,
use it to determine the week link in the chain.

For example, remove and use the HDMI cable from your PS3
to run from your new HD STB to the same input on your PJ that you KNOW
is full of Awsomeness! when playing your PS3.

If it still looks like crap, its the Cable box (or its settings) or the HDMI port on your AVR

if it looks Better now, it was the crappy cables

Great idea!! I am using an HDMI cable that has been in the closet for a year, i will try the one from the ps3 and see if the pic is any better, thank you again, i have been on this ALL day! lol.
