View Full Version : Accidentally messed up display calibration settings (Samsung LN52A650) – Help

I was in the service menu trying to limit the maximum volume the tv could be turned up to and I didn't realize that if you hit over on the remote it actually selected what you had highlighted. Unfortunately I had ADC highlighted and I hit over on the remote.

The tv is a Samsung LN52A650

I realize that I am stupid, but I wonder if anybody with this tv or the same model of a different size could help me out. If I could get some screen shots of the factory settings, or at least some settings that work reasonably well that would be really nice. The menu Items I think I need screen shots of are:

ADC Target
ADC Result
WB
EPA Standard
Sharpness

And any other ones that I may need.

Again thanks a lot for then help

Hopefully someone will have the parameters that you request for your panel. Until then, I highly recommend that you do not enter the service menu, especially blindly, because you can ruin your display with one touch of the button.

Thanks, you are right. Sometimes you learn lessons the hard way.

Is doing a factory reset an option to restore the original values?

Ok, a little more info.

After doing some more research I found out that the majority of people that accidentally recalibrated their tvs complained about the colours being way off or everything being really dark. I am not having either of these problems. For me I have found that some HD channels are fairly noisy, and occasionally the picture will go really blocky for a split second. Other HD channels look totally normal just as they did before I messed with the service menu.

I also just put in I, Robot on blu-ray and I only watched it for about 10 minutes, but it looks great as usual.

The only thing I did in the service menu was accidentally click ADC, and then it went to a screen that listed the inputs and said success. So my question is what could/did I mess up by clicking ADC? Could I have caused the problem I am describing above?

I also found some screen shots of each screen in the service menu for a LN40A650 and I compared my settings to that. All of the values were exactly the same or very close so I don't know what else could have changed?

Again, thanks for the help.

Jeremy

ADC stands for analog to digital converter. Generally the settings in the samsungs service menu are there for automated signal calibration if fed test signals. The problem most have is that they're not providing the correct test signals when they enable these options, thereby having it calibrate itself to whatever it is being fed, which may or may not produce good results.
So i am theorizing that the option you enabled was automatic calibration for the ADC. Who knows what the calibration was for (timing? Voltage Sensitivity?)... so, i am not sure what the results would be of a miss calibration. It could possibly alter how well it takes an analog signal from an analog input and converts it to digital. So, if you use any analog signal input (component, composite, s-video, vga/d-sub...etc), see if they seem to be displaying correctly. If so, then i wouldn't worry.

I have tried both component and dvi to hdmi for the satellite receiver, but some hd channels do not display very well. They are just not that sharp and a bit pixelated at times. But as I said before the blu-ray seems to be ok, but I will have to watch it a bit more later to make sure.

If it still said "sucess" you did not mess anything up. Be very Thankful! You must of just accessed the ADC menu that lists the inputs and says "sucess" on each. This will not mess anything up, however selecting one of the inputs will cause ADC to fail and then you'll have issues.

As far as your picture quality issue it is normal for some HD shows and Channels to look better than others. If your image is freezing up or blocking occasionally that is a weak signal from your satelitre provider or bad dish alignment.

j343my, I did the same thing. I'm wondering if you would share where you found the screen shots of the service menu screens. I would like to compare my values as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
