If the jets can't win this week, forget about it!
If the jets can't win this week, forget about it!
why? they'd still be in line for a wild card spot
Gmichael2 11-13-08, 05:36 PM If the jets can't win this week, forget about it!
Same could be said for the patriots.
dcowboy7 11-13-08, 05:46 PM Same could be said for the patriots.
not really:
1. the pats beat the jets already this year....if they win again they would own the tiebreaker and have basically a 2 game lead on the jets making it kinda impossible for jets to catch them....if they lose they are only 1 game behind and the jets play the titans next week so pats can tie them right back next week anyway.
2. he is saying if the jets/favre cant beat pats now without brady, maroney, r.harrison, a.thomas theyll never get over the hump and win this division.
dcowboy7 11-13-08, 05:48 PM its raining in boston...what a shock.
who cares if they dont win the division.
Just look at the Giants last year :D
dcowboy7 11-13-08, 05:51 PM but the giants played the pats tough in that week 17 game....didnt even use the whole playbook and the pats were better last year and the giants still almost beat them....now the jets are going all out and the pats arent as good as last year....mental downer for jets to blow this chance now.
+ if jets lose and lose to titans next week they are 6-5 and might not even get wildcard.
chris_h2 11-13-08, 06:30 PM its raining in boston...what a shock.
Oh, that cracked me up! :):D
Bruce Patterson 11-13-08, 06:35 PM Let's go Brett! :)
GrouchoDude 11-13-08, 06:54 PM I just wanted to be the first to throw in the obligatory "THIS SUCKS!" post as one of those unfortunates with TWC who won't be able to watch this game. (Although, to be clear, I think TWC is fighting the good fight in this case; the NFL Network is the televised football equivalent of mobsters demanding protection money).
sansri88 11-13-08, 07:04 PM Will be watching via Comcast cable on WPIX.

I'm a lucky TWC customer. :p
WPIX NYC
(and yes i agree - TWC happens to be right on this issue)
sansri88 11-13-08, 07:30 PM WPIX has their own pregame show, in HD with the new logo (they're dropping the CW name).
Their microphones out at Foxboro are also PIX 11, not CW 11.
WPIX via Cablevision.
Nice to see channel 11 with no CW branding tonight.
EDIT: Beaten by sansri88. ;)
StudioTech 11-13-08, 07:37 PM Also watching pre-game OTA via WPIX-DT. Love seeing the new logos and LOL at Craig for remembering TVPix! Hopefully there'll be no problems when the NFLN feed comes up.
the "change" from CW11 to (W)PIX was announced about a week or so ago.
I've been seeing the new 'old' logo all week on commercial time they bought on local cable promoting that they had the game
sansri88 11-13-08, 07:38 PM Yeah that was funny with the PIX PIX PIX thing!
They have an HD cam over at Foxboro, I give them props for that.
chitchatjf 11-13-08, 07:58 PM Fios Boston on 588 NOT 505!
Yeah that was funny with the PIX PIX PIX thing!
They have an HD cam over at Foxboro, I give them props for that.
its not the camera.. its that they got a truck...
also - impressive that they are showing lots of local commercial spots in HD...
no audio on WPIX...
edit: o wait - there it is (lost HD....)
sansri88 11-13-08, 08:01 PM Audio wasn't working for a bit there...but it's on now.
Something happened with the HD feed though, it's in SD right now I think.
sansri88 11-13-08, 08:03 PM What the heck? They're showing the HD feed of the game with some other audio.
oy...
WPIX now has HD picture but Audio from The CW (smallville)
StudioTech 11-13-08, 08:03 PM That sounds like audio from the CW show that was supposed to air.
StudioTech 11-13-08, 08:05 PM And now back to the SD feed.
sansri88 11-13-08, 08:05 PM Back to SD with working audio.
mikepier 11-13-08, 08:05 PM What the heck is going on WPIX?
sansri88 11-13-08, 08:07 PM HD with audio now working.
WPIX-DT audio issue seems fixed now.
StudioTech 11-13-08, 08:07 PM There we go.
mikepier 11-13-08, 08:07 PM Whew, I was sweating for a minute or two there!
sansri88 11-13-08, 08:09 PM Audio dropping during the anthem right now..
Edit: looks like it's fine right now, might be a rough night watching on PIX...
Edit2: Spoke too soon, some weird beeps and audio drops continued. Bad start...
WPIX...... This is hilarious!
I never knew there was so much cursing in the national anthem
Jeremy W 11-13-08, 08:11 PM Audio problems are there on the NFL Network feed as well, so it's not just your local station
Audio problems are there on the NFL Network feed as well, so it's not just your local station
o - ok - WPIX was having its own problems up until then - so we just figured...
SQUIDWARD360 11-13-08, 08:12 PM WPIX...... This is hilarious!
I never knew there was so much cursing in the national anthem
It's the same on NFL Network.
sansri88 11-13-08, 08:13 PM I like it how this game is a nationally broadcast game but most of the people posting here are from the NYC area :P
Hopefully things go better when the game starts in a few moments.
totalownership 11-13-08, 08:14 PM Audio dropping during the anthem right now..

Same thing on the NFL channel.
Comcast Essex County NJ
SQUIDWARD360 11-13-08, 08:16 PM At least FiOS seems to have worked out the problems from last week.
ccotenj 11-13-08, 08:20 PM initial pq is superb... nice and sharp, good color, no pixelation, real good grass, no noise on the field down and distance bug...
aq... thank goodness for processing in the avr... :)
fios, south jersey...
go pats!
Jack Gilvey 11-13-08, 08:23 PM Let's go, other New Jersey team! :)

Just went from compressed audio with aweful bursts, to an almost mute?

sansri88 11-13-08, 08:27 PM The video froze on the advertisement for a good 10 seconds here, lol.
totalownership 11-13-08, 08:27 PM man they really messing up over there. Sears commercial was frozen for a few seconds just now. Hope we get to see the whole game without the lights going out.
The video froze on the advertisement for a good 10 seconds here, lol.
Same Here.
Comcast of Lebanon Pa.
Go Jets!
Jeremy W 11-13-08, 08:29 PM I've never been impressed with the technical work during NFL Network games. It's like they've got complete amateurs at the controls.
Comcast Detroit. Initial audio problems, HD image quality is very good.
totalownership 11-13-08, 08:34 PM Is it me or does the audio sound like we're in someone's small carpeted basement?
E-A-G-L-E-S 11-13-08, 08:34 PM It's about a 14dB difference between commercials and game now.....really sad.
Had the freeze before as well.
PQ is superb once again though.
Audio just came booming back!
Good PQ so far.
Comcast of Lebanon PA.
Go Jets!
devotiondoubt 11-13-08, 08:34 PM Uverse in Chicago...major audio problems.

no freeze for me, but definitely LOUD commercials...
icemannyr 11-13-08, 08:40 PM WPIX-DT NYC and NFLN HD FiOS TV
Audio on WPIX-DT sounds fine. Audio on NFLN HD is low with less high end sound and the crowd noise is lower.
WPIX has more macroblocking then NFLN HD but I'll take WPIX since the audio is normal.
totalownership 11-13-08, 08:43 PM WPIX-DT NYC and NFLN HD FiOS TV
Audio on WPIX-DT sounds fine. Audio on NFLN HD is low and the crowd noise is super low.
WPIX has more macroblocking then NFLN HD but I'll take WPIX since the audio is normal.
Thats exactly how I see it and I agree. I think I can live with the macro versus the audio but they both still sound "muffled". The accoustics still sound like I'm watching it in a carpeted basement.
mikepier 11-13-08, 08:50 PM WPIX-DT NY OTA
Looks good, agree with Iceman there is some macroblocking issue. Not exactly CBS quality, but its good. Audio sounds good too.
I can't compare since I don't have it, but I have to think the PQ is better on NFL Net.
jestjuggle 11-13-08, 08:52 PM Directv
As others have said the audio is all over the place. Sounds like an echo chamber during the game and then loud as ajet engine during the commercials. Have to constantly change the volume levels. This is driving me nuts. If the NFL insists on having Thursday Night Football they should either get it right or have one of the other networks broadcast it.
E-A-G-L-E-S 11-13-08, 08:54 PM jestjungle........It isn't D*, it's NFLN. ;)
You can bet if one of the broadcast partners (CBS, FOX, NBC, ESPN) had these kind of problems, they would be called on the carpet first thing tomorrow morning.
ccotenj 11-13-08, 09:03 PM yea, one would hope so ken...
couldn't they farm the production out to one of the existing partners?
Jack Gilvey 11-13-08, 09:04 PM No issues with pic or sound on WPIX/iO. Just watching on the 30" CRT in the living room, though, in native 1080i.
Jeremy W 11-13-08, 09:05 PM You can bet if one of the broadcast partners (CBS, FOX, NBC, ESPN) had these kind of problems, they would be called on the carpet first thing tomorrow morning.
And you'd think that at a time when the NFL and NFLN are not very well liked by a large portion of the fanbase, they'd be trying very hard to put their best foot forward. Unfortunately, just like in years past, their broadcasts are technically inferior to everyone else's.
ccotenj 11-13-08, 09:06 PM nice kick coverage tonight for the pats...
theelviscerator 11-13-08, 09:10 PM Only getting DD 2.0 and yep very low game volume, then BLAST the commercials...
Pic is good, NFL network on Dish HD, Elkhart, IN
sansri88 11-13-08, 09:10 PM That was a very nice return by the Jets :)
ccotenj 11-13-08, 09:13 PM Only getting DD 2.0 and yep very low game volume, then BLAST the commercials...

unfortunately, dd 2.0 is all you are going to get, since nfln doesn't seem to believe that dd 5.1 is worthwhile...
tvpaint 11-13-08, 09:16 PM the commercials aren't rolled in from the truck. This is done in the same master control that cannot handle 5.1
the amateurs reside there me thinks
icemannyr 11-13-08, 09:21 PM The game audio on NFLN HD just got much louder and sounds better.
WPIX-DT and NFLN HD are now at the same audio level/
mikepier 11-13-08, 09:26 PM Overall, I'm impressed with the PQ on WPIX-DT. It seems the macroblocking is minor now with little swimming grass. Seems it got better in the 2nd quarter.
totalownership 11-13-08, 09:48 PM Only getting DD 2.0 and yep very low game volume, then BLAST the commercials...

Being that this broadcast is in Stereo I'm able to use the Automatic Level Contorl on my reciever to help with it. Works very good.
berniec 11-13-08, 09:50 PM WPIX-DT NY OTA
Looks good, agree with Iceman there is some macroblocking issue. Not exactly CBS quality, but its good. Audio sounds good too.
I can't compare since I don't have it, but I have to think the PQ is better on NFL Net.
tons of macroblocking on WPIX via Cablevision in Hoboken...looks terrible. Audio of the announcers occasionally dropping out (while background music continues), in addition to all the audio problems at the beginning of the game...very disappointed in the technical quality of the broadcast.
paule123 11-13-08, 09:57 PM Watching via D* channel 212 on a 50" 1080p plasma - PQ not quite as good as CBS on NFLST -- looks like edge enhancement is turned way up. There's some artifacting. Seems like the PQ is somewhere between 720p and 1080i. There's some video noise/tearing down the right side in 1:1 pixel mode. The booth shot of Collinsworth and the other guy are lacking detail (soft). Doesn't have the pop I typically see with CBS 1080i closeups on the NFL Today, for example. The detail of the stripes on the suit and the tie pattern are not there.
Audio is terrible -- all over the place, perfect example is when they went to the half time show - first it was relatively loud and sounded "normal", then it kicked down a notch to a monaural AM radio sounding thing, then it kicked down again to where it's barely audible during the Chad Ocho Cinco interview.
then it kicked down again to where it's barely audible during the Chad Ocho Cinco interview.
I like how Collinsworth went through all the trouble of mentioning that his legal name was Chad Ochocinco, yet the NFLN graphic read Chad Johnson.
The game audio on NFLN HD just got much louder and sounds better.
WPIX-DT and NFLN HD are now at the same audio level/
WPIX has their usual bizarre "5.1" with the same thing in all channels -- including the surrounds. NFLNet just has stereo.
There are a lot of other problems with the audio that aren't obvious to the casual viewer. It's amazing that they sound as similar as they do. I guess enough wrongs do make a right...
StudioTech 11-13-08, 11:13 PM Since WPIX has one sub-channel, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that has something to do with some of the blocking.
ccotenj 11-13-08, 11:30 PM woot!
that was, dare we say, brady-esque... :D
dad1153 11-13-08, 11:38 PM Watching OTA in Harlem. WPIX-DT PQ is loaded with macroblocking and the audio breaks-up ocassionally; combined with NFL Network's well known amateurish TV productions this has the feeling of a really good college or high school football event. Oh well, good game except that the Jets are on their way to yet another spectacular choke! :(
ccotenj 11-13-08, 11:41 PM ah darnit... looks like the jets are going to pull it out... :(
Favre, does it again, in OT.
mikepier 11-13-08, 11:51 PM What a game!
Dreary eyed, gotta get up at 6:00 AM, but happy we're in first place.

Dreary eyed, gotta get up at 6:00 AM, but happy we're in first place.
That did turn out to be a really good game. I was just about to turn too.
Yep the jets escaped, The pats continue to hold their own and could have easily won this one as they did in the Colts loss. They are making mistakes in crucial times that they never did in years past but I am impressed with how well their doing under the circumstances and might have underestimated their chances this year. The offense looks fine but the defense is really the weakness and I thought without Brady it would be the opposite. Anyways the SB winner will be from the NFC this year because I don't see anyone in the AFC including the Titans that match up with the powers on the other side but then again I could be wrong, see giants from last year.
Jack Gilvey 11-14-08, 06:28 AM Sweet win for the Jets. All alone in 1st place in mid-November? Who'da thunk? I'll bet poor Billy has about had it with these East Rutherford teams...
RAVEN56706 11-14-08, 07:59 AM Good job Jets.... awesome win...
remember... if these were the same old Jets, they would have lost the game... but they didnt

what a game is right... not happy about being in 2nd place though... :(
dreary eyed is an understatement, since i was so frustrated after the game it took me another hour to get to sleep...
replayrob 11-14-08, 09:55 AM remember... if these were the same old Jets, they would have lost the game... but they didn't
I was thinking the same thing.... usually when we play the Pats- we have the shotgun snap that fly's past the QB while he's looking the other way, we have the 15 yard personal foul for a dumb late hit, we have the wide open receiver that simply drops the ball, and we have a kickoff returned 92 yards against us. We pretty much always play a really close game w/the Pats and it's usually decided by one or two close calls and/or dumb penalties that go against us... but last night the roles were reversed, most of the breaks went our way for a change. And look what happened :D
I feel pretty good about next week (Nov 23rd) versus the unbeaten Titans- in a tight game with everything on the line... Brett seems to be able to deliver the groceries.
Oh yeah, lots of macroblocking on WPIX-DT via Cablevision Long Island- looked like classic bitstarving.
mikepier 11-14-08, 10:24 AM Oh yeah, lots of macroblocking on WPIX-DT via Cablevision Long Island- looked like classic bitstarving.
I compared the PQ on Cablevision and OTA and the latter looked a lot better as is usually the case
Sweet win for the Jets. All alone in 1st place in mid-November? Who'da thunk? I'll bet poor Billy has about had it with these East Rutherford teams...
Speaking of Coach Bill, I think this is his best coaching job in maybe his whole tenure with NE. I'm amazed how competitive the Pats are in every game except one ( Miami) considering the circumstances. I have become a bigger fan of his than ever and hope he stays around here for a long time. I wouldn't get too excited about the jets, they almost blew this game after having a big lead against an undermanned Pats team without Brady, not impressed!
RAVEN56706 11-14-08, 10:50 AM i think we need to stop the Brady not there stuff.... The cowboys are using the same excuse.... listen... thats why you have training camp and preseason.... you have to get the best players for your team and that includes the backups.... of course you cant have a stacked team but thats why you draft well...
look at cowboys.... who in their right mind thought Brad Johnson was the no.2 ..... oh romo isnt there , thats why they suck... no way... they lost 2 games with romo...
The patriots have done good without brady. hell , they were predicted to go back to the super bowl... but remember... Brady doesnt work on defense...
its a team effort...
WPIX DT ... i think this game looked better on my local station compared to the NFL network

I don't know why you'd be feeling good about that game if you're rooting for the Jets. Everyone knows that the Titans will receive their first loss at the hands of the Lions on Thanksgiving. ;)

E-A-G-L-E-S 11-14-08, 11:51 AM Raven....even though Eli is overated, if he went down the giants would be done.
There aren't enough good starting QB's to fill all the teams let alone back-ups.
theelviscerator 11-14-08, 12:13 PM Great game though as far as football goes.
Happy to see the jets win though.

Too bad they couldnt run the score up on the pats though, as they were want to do last year.

This Patriot team is no where near what it was last year, Brady is not the only one missing from it. With that said I don't believe they are a play-off team but with the rest of the teams in their division just as average, they still have a shot. You can say those are excuses but would this team be 6-4 with the team that was on the field last year at this time, I think not. Bottom line is this team is NOT as good as they were so when teams beat them this year it should come as no big surprise but people are still building them up as being a great team which they are not and if not for some great coaching from BB & staff, their record would be worst. I have watch them every game for many, many years and I can see differences from this team to the past and the results are quite obvious.

thats because the defense is getting older.... granted like i said.... the patriots are lost without Brady....but the ravens didnt have a qb when they won the SB.... the defense won it .....
i just hate the excuses and your team cant revolve around just 1 person... you need to draft better...
the giants are great because of the team effort.... if eli went down the offense would be down yeah, but the defense shouldnt use the same excuse

he does both quite well
johnovox 11-14-08, 03:47 PM Great game. The Jets were finally able to overcome the Pats, but it took OT to do it after blowing a 24-6 lead and without facing Brady, Thomas, Maroney and Harrison, among others.
In their final five games, the Pats have among other teams, Seattle, Oakland and Arizona. A Pats win next week against Miami and a Jets loss to the Titans and the dividsion race is back on.

Harrison, Thomas, & Warren all play defense. Could have something to do with the Jets hanging 34 on them last night but you might be right, they are getting older but there were also a lot of young rookies in there last night and that could account for the not so great performance as well. I say the defense is better with those three guys I mentioned but thats just my opinion.

Actually, I'm more of a Giants fan. But I couldn't help noticing that you are in denial. Just had to point that out. Now please, stop pounding your chest and pissing on the pore Jets. It's tough enough on them being in NY/NJ.
I've always liked BB's ability to coach. He did wonders for our team back in the 80's.

chris_h2 11-14-08, 04:39 PM I like how Collinsworth went through all the trouble of mentioning that his legal name was Chad Ochocinco, yet the NFLN graphic read Chad Johnson.
I don't care much for Chad (seemed arogant to me wearing the "HOF 200?" shirt, and I think his team was something like 1 and 8 last time I looked) so I skipped this part of the show. Did he really legally change his last name to Ochocinco? That may be kinda awkward if he ever gets traded and is assigned a new number.

Yes, he legally changed it. And no, if he ever went to another team and 85 was already taken, he'd pay that player to get the number. It's been done before several times.
I rest my case.
Thats your answer, good luck with that one! I hope your not a lawyer.

What if 85 is retired? I guess he could pay the team to take it out of retirement. Not sure if any team has retired 85 or not. Man, he must really like that number!

Not everyone needs everything spelled out for them. Some people can reason on their own.

I guess I'm not one of them, can you help me out?
mikepier 11-14-08, 05:20 PM but even if the jets lose to the titans they still control their own destiny as they now own the tiebreaker.
What tiebreaker are we talking about? They split the 2 games with NE.

OK, I'll try.
You are obviously a Pats fan. (Nothing wrong with that. I like them too) You were carrying on about how they impressed you by coming close even with all their injuries (cough: excuse, cough). At the same time you were putting the Jets down by saying that no one should be too impressed with them (even though they just beat the team you are impressed with). Seemed like you were trying not to see that the Pats just don't have the "IT" factor this year that a team needs to win despite injuries, bad calls etc. As I recognized that you were a major fan, it seemed like it would be fun to rube your nose in it a little. It was fun for me. Sorry about it stinging a little. It was just a joke though. Hope you're not upset.

I never said I was impressed with how good they are, only that their competitive. That is a big difference with what your trying to say. Face the fact the Pats are not as good as you keep making them out to be and add to that the fact the Jets have already lost to them and you can see where I'm going with this about my feelings on the Jets. And do I even have to bring up the Raiders, I think not. No one from the AFC east will advance past the first round regardless of who it is. I think that all equates to not being in denial, don't you?
Speedskater 11-14-08, 10:15 PM I hate that orange firecracker effect that they run when they show a replay! I keep thinking that my set just broke.

If the Jets keep winning, and with their remaining schedule there is no reason to think that they won't, they won't even have to play in the first round. I expect them to give the Titans all they can handle.

If this, if that. For all we know Miami could win the division as there are still 6 games left and everyone is still in it!

I was trying to say that it is easy to get under your skin.
But you are still in denial.:D
