Will HDMI still work if the HDMI ground is removed or disabled on the cable? Is there any danger in doing this?
The reason is my TV adds ground voltage causing the AV receiver to buzz.

It should work just fine. However, there are still five signal grounds (four on the pairs, plus one more) on the cable, and so depending on how your devices' internal grounding is handled (specifically, whether signal ground and chassis ground are the same) it may not eliminate your problem. There's no danger in doing it (unless your ground problem is REALLY severe), but you may find it hard to do as the cable is hard to open up for alteration; the easiest way to do it, in most cases, is probably to gently strip a short chunk of insulation in the middle of the cable and cut out the braid, foil and/or drain wire that you find just under the surface (but NOT the individual pair foils which you'll see inside the bundle). If this is done delicately it should be possible to do it without injuring the underlying conductors.
