narrowed it down to these 3, but I'm not sure the 980 gives me much over the 880, and ditto from the 880 vs 450, for my home theater
(click on my sig for a schematic of my system).
the main thing I want is:
* open architecture programming
* ability to have variables, in order to remember each device's state...whether it is on, off, etc.
any feedback is appreciated

Knock out the 450.
880 versus 980.
Decide which layout you prefer. That should decide it.
Other factors, 980 screen and charging base.
The 980 does have 2 more screen buttons. I find they are very useful even though it does not sound like a big difference. Also, the cradle is much nicer then just a plug hanging which always manages to fall off the table, shelf, tv, etc while using the remote.

one of the things I really wished the 880 could do is more custom graphics such as the MX-810, but apparently, it only has one custom screen in the "favs"....correct me if I'm wrong.
the price difference between them is substantial, but need more info

I own a 980 and love it. I wouldn't change it for anything and i really push them to my clients. I installed an 880 a few weeks ago and although its still a really nice remote the favorites section is weak in my opinion. The charging cord that you use is cheesy and for sure you would want an actual base station which means you have to purchase one.
980 all the way
Tweeter is liquidating and is selling the URC's at quite a discount but am I correct in understanding that I cannot use the 980 since I will not have access to the necessary software?
