I am thinking of getting a Panasonic PT-AX200U projector for my basement and wanted to know what type/style of fixed frame screen I should buy? I will have light control in the room. Thanks!!

I'm in the same boat, need a 120" screen for use with the AX200U. I am thinking about the Elite ezframe cinewhite. Anyone know if this is a good combo? This screen has a gain of 1.0 but since the pj is so bright I am thinking it is not an issue. Then again I am throwing from 16 feet....

Many different opinions re screens.

We have an older model Panasonic 720p projector - the 900U - and our experience is basis for our opinion.

We first bought a 16:9 white screen. Didn't like how the more rectangular screen limited our ability to adjust different aspect ratio content - specially when watching more square images like older 3:2 movies and 4:3 tv content.

We noticed that most commercial Theaters seem to have larger and more square screens which gives them more options for projecting different content.

We decided to buy a Da-lite Da-snap fixed gray higher contrast screen in a larger and more square configuration instead of the shorter but wider 16:9 screens.

We believe that gray gives us better contrast and blacks. A enemy of projection is light and an important factor in the visual effect of light is reflection. White screens reflect light back into the room more than gray. Our screen seems to reflect almost zero light back from the biggest source of room light - the projector.

Even with dim room light we have almost no light reflection which minimizes the visual effect of ambient room light while using our projector.

Black Bars - most all movies produced at a wider aspect ratio than 16:9 which is the aspect ratio standard for HD TV. Consequently ALL consumer projectors whether they are labeled "business" type or "Home Theater" type will create those dreaded horizontal black bars across the top and bottom of their image as they scale wider content to their native format.

We found the black bars to be a BIG distraction on a white screen but hardly visible on our gray screen - in fact, we don't notice them at all. We like the Da-snap 90X120 in. model which allow not only a great widescreen image but allow you to zoom or use the "full screen" mode on less wide content giving you the largest image possible regardless of the contents aspect ratio.

Enjoy your Panasonic experience - NO television on the market today can create Theater in the Home!!

Save the money and make your own screen if you can.

Been there, done that twice. Looking for a professional option this time around. DIY is definitely cheaper, but buying a pre-made screen is a lot less work. :-)

I have a 100" Carada Criterion in my room and it is very nice. The build quality is excellent and the customer service is second to none. Call Rex at Carada and you won't be disappointed.
