Ever since i got my HR21, i have been upset at the long times it takes to go through menus and other functions.

the setups i see at the bars seem to flip through the guide at lightning speed. when i hit page up or page down, it sometimes takes 3 or 4 seconds to respond. it does this with both the harmony remote (using RF) and the d* remote using IR as well as even the buttons on the dvr itself.

if i hit page down button 15 times relatively quick, by the time i'm done, it may have done 4 actual page downs and then it'll continue firing them off well after i've finished pressing the button.

i also get input lag when typing in channel numbers directly from the remote and basically everything lags to ****.

is this just a dvr thing? are there models of dvrs from d* that i can get that wont have this issue?

The Broadcom CPU in the HR21/HR22/HR22/HR23 is a bit slower than the one in the older HR20. Both run at 300MHz, but the memory bandwidth is higher on the HR20's CPU, which provides for somewhat better responsiveness.

The radiation emitted by some lighting fixtures and flatscreen televisions can also interfere with IR signals, contributing to slower response from the IR receiver on the box.

i just got off the phone with them, and they said since i dont have the protection plan it's a $50 service call to come look at it.

what a bunch of crooks, first they didnt process my rebate, 2nd they wouldnt give me the SWM module that i was promised, and now this...

what other tv/cable company charges for service calls... i've never had one in my life.

oh and also my setup is saying that my tv isnt 1080p capable and it's clearly a 1080p tv...

sigh, i'm getting rid of these ppl asap

Your TV probably only supports 1080p/60. The DirecTV signal is 1080p/24 and many newer TVs will support this resolution.

So you are saying that the HR21 is laggy if your TV doesnt support 1080p/24:rolleyes:

Don't bother having them look at it... It is working as designed...

The thing is just a POS! I have hated the thing since I switched back to DirecTV from Dish. I'm getting close to bagging it, paying DirecTV their extortion money and going back to Dish.

I have checked in several stores and a couple of neighbors that have them - they all suck. Slower than slow and full of quirks compared to the Dish 622 I just gave up a couple of months ago.

Maybe when the new DirecTivo comes out next year it will work better but until then DirecTV is far behind Dish when it comes to hardware... Pretty amazing considering Dish Network's history of bad hardware/software!

Sorry - I'm with you on the pathetic HR2X boxes!

Interesting as the HR20 boxes work fine.

Interesting as the HR20 boxes work fine.

Mine worked fine until about a month ago.
Now i get a lot of micro-stuttering.

Maybe I was a little harsh but I was unknowingly spoiled by the speed and reliability of the622 from Dish Network. The biggest issue is the speed of the entire series of HD DVRs from DirecTV. If someone has never used a Dish Network 622 or 722 the DirecTV DVRs may seem to work just fine but… Having used Comcast, DirecTV and Dish Network DVRs there really is no question…. The 622 and 722 are lightning speed compared to DirecTV and the Comcast Motorola boxes are just unusable.

After months of using my HR22 I still find my self wanting to smash the thing. I constantly have to force myself to slow down as to not push buttons twice only to have it catch up….

I have had more strange things happen in the 3 months I have the HR22 than I had for years using the 622.

The latest update seems to have screwed with my caller ID – sometimes I get it sometimes it says I need to subscribe to caller ID with my phone company – sometimes I get nothing…

The things need work but I don’t think much will change – how long has it been since the first? You’d think they would have fixed them if they had any plan to do so.

Don't know how much it'll actually help, but the next software release (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=145208) is supposed to include a "Faster Guide".

However, the recent software release really, really helped it. Menus, guide and channel changes are all significantly faster. Very acceptable now, but before were frustratingly slow.

Hopefully the upcoming update for your HR21s will solve the responsiveness problems.

I just noticed tonight that there is a resolution 1080p check box in the menu. From what I have read I guess my set needs to be 1080p/24. Mine is not. When I select it it goes back and forth to blue screen then black and my set says its getting 1080p. Then it goes back to the menu and says your tv does not support 1080p. What a crock. It just amazes me that D* is using 1080p/24 and not 60. Im in no way buying a new set for this. Mines only two years old. But would be nice.:D

How many channels are broadcast in 1080p?

No channels are broadcast in 1080p. VOD movies are going to start being sent out in 1080p. Since movies are usually filmed at 24 frames per second, DirecTV has decided to leave them in that format and distribute it that way. Most Blu ray movies are also 1080p at 24 frames a second because that is how they are filmed.

The TV companies are the ones you should be upset with for advertising their TVs as 1080p when they aren't compatible with 1080p 24, which is what most of your programming is going to be (some TV shows etc, filmed digitally may be in 1080p 60 frames per second, but you would only get them in this format on Blu Ray).
