I just received the following email. I'm not sure whether it was Amazon or Fox that stepped up to the plate but at least the Amazon customers should be happy:

Hello from Amazon.com.

We're writing about the James Bond Blu-ray Collection Six-Pack (Amazon.com Exclusive ASIN: B001DVVYEQ) that you purchased.

We've discovered that the disc for 'For Your Eyes Only' will not play correctly on Samsung BD-P1500 and LGE BH200 players. If you do not use one of these Samsung Blu-ray players, you will not be impacted by this issue.

Samsung is developing a firmware update to resolve this issue for both players and plans to release it later this month.

If you own one of these players and do not wish to wait for the firmware update, Fox Home Video will send a replacement disc. Simply send an e-mail to support at foxhome.com with your shipping address and Amazon.com order number, listed in the subject line of this e-mail, to request a replacement.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and thank you for shopping at Amazon.com.

Sincerely,

Customer Service
Amazon.com

Why?! I think I won't bother and I have the PS3 besides my Sammy BD-P1500.

Got the same email. I have had no problems with the disc on my PS3 or S550. However, I will undoubtedly have other players in the future. Should I swap it anyways? What is the problem with the disc?

I went through this with Speed (also a Fox title) and the Samsung BD-P1000, and it indeed took 6-8 weeks to get the replacement disc.

better off waiting for the firmware then waiting the 6-8 weeks for the disc

I'll wait for reports of people receiving actual FIXED discs, not just new copies of the same disc, before I go through the hassle of sending my movie in. No interest in another Die Hard 2 scenario.

Brajesh, I received a slightly different reply from FOX:
Please return your defective to the following address:

And pretty much the same from there and below, including the comment to return the entire box set. Hmm... Because I ordered the 6-pack of JB movies, which is really just a shrink wrap bundling of the both 3-packs with a different SKU sticker, does that mean that I should return all 6 movies?

It would be logical to return the single defective disc. If not that, the next lower level of logic would be to return the 3-pack that includes FYEO. The lowest level of logic would be to return the single item that I ordered, the 6-pack.

And yes, I do own a Samsung BD-P1500 and I am unable to watch FYEO.

Yeah. I am going to wait for the firmware as well for my 1500 since I also own a PS3. Worse case is Samsung does not step up with a firmware update to fix this I will send the disc in to Fox.

Personally, I would send it back whether or not you own one of the affected players for two reasons.

1) You have no way of knowing if a future player will be able to play it
2) Fox needs to have some sort of cost associated with their authoring screw-ups so they invest enough in the future to ensure they do not happen again.

Don't wait for a firmware update. It is not the CE's responsibility to fix the mistakes of the studios.

I own a copy of FYEO from Best Buy, was in the Tin case, single movie.

Is it affected by this bug? (Haven't tried to watch it yet) Or does it only apply to the 3-pack bundled as 6 movies from Amazon?

Hi,

In regards the replacement of the blu-ay " For Your Eyes Only" if we
send you the replacement you will still not be able to play the
blu-rays, due to the fact that you need to get firmware upgraded. You
need to contact the manufacture of your player and ask them when it will
be available.

Thank you,

Ha ha ha ha ha!

So, I'm supposed to send in MY ENTIRE BOND SET and wait several weeks for them to send me a replacement which... STILL WON'T WORK?!?

Wow!

And what, exactly, is the purpose of this bad-disc-for-bad-disc exchange?

See, this is exactly what I'm talking about. I don't trust that they've actually fixed the issue and pressed new discs - I think they are just going to send you another copy of the same disc.

What a bunch of morons.

+1. Seriously did AIG fire their executives and now they work in Fox customer service? :D
