Over the last few weeks, there have been a slew of great titles come out. Deals are popping up everywhere as we inch closer and closer to Black Friday and the holiday shopping season. Stores are trying to under price each other, and everyday it seems that great BD titles that I was wanting to get from the past two years are getting cheaper and more tempting to pick up. It all has me feeling a bit overwhelmed. Which titles should I get now? Which ones should I wait and see if they will get cheaper? Which ones should I put on my Christmas list? Which ones should I pre-order to get a better price at? Who has the better shipping rates and how many do you have to order to make the shipping not a rip off?

Anyone else feel the same way?

I was going to start a thread but wasn't sure if mods would allow. All I know is a have a backlog of titles to view, either bought or rented.

I ALWAYS check for a good price before pulling the trigger so much hasn't changed with respect to that. The more you wait, the better price I've found.

Unless it is something I really have to have on release day, then I don't wait for lower but check amongst B&M stores and price match.

I totally have dropped preordering. You can do just as well waiting if not better and probably get as good a price on release day at B&M to some extent. And no hassle of waiting for delivery!

I used to spend a lot of time tracking stock prices and striking at just the right time, now I do that with Blu-rays. In both cases, the numbers I'm looking at keep going down but with Blus I get a nice movie to watch when I'm done rather than just being disappointed.

yes the deals are crazy. its been difficult to chose.

this week wal-mart will have several paramount and WB blus on sale for $10.

what's worse (for me) is theirs several region free blus comming to france and the UK that I really want. the higher prices make it difficult but I know I will get a couple

I only got into Blu-ray when the MGS4 PS3 bundle was released. Since then, around June or so, I've picked up almost 150 Blu-ray releases. :o

I buy smart though, and if I put together a total of what I've actually spent out of pocket, it wouldn't be much at all to be honest with you. At least no where even close to retail prices. Heck, most of the past 50 I've picked up have been from store credit on DVD Planet.

Don't even think about it, just put the 95% sure I want on the Christmas list and buy the 100% sure titles... at least until the Thanksgiving deadline when the wife doesnt allow me to buy anything for myself until after Christmas.

Hell, yes! In less than a month's time I've upgraded my player and bought at least 50 BDs.

But we've been complaining about high player prices and a dearth of titles for a while now, so the old adage 'Be careful what you wish for, you may get it' comes to mind. :D

Also be sure you want those certain films in your collections. Sometimes, I'd buy a title that I thought I'd liked, but in the end, they ended up as credit at MovieStop. =/

I always feel like I'm overwhelmed by the releases, but take it slow. Better prices come later, anyway. I could have bought Hairspray for 34.99 during release, but now it's only 19.99—five dollars more than the DVD!

My total Blu Ray collection is just North of 100 now. I started slow but I keep buying the must haves and concerts.

For me repeat viewing value is the #1 criteria.

I was underwhelmed but now I'm happy :)

I'm glad we have movies to choose from now. It was slim pickins a year ago.

Best Buy's black Friday ad came out and there's a bunch of Blu's on sale that I wanna get. There's also a lot of new releases this month and next. Overwhelmed is a good word to use that's for sure.

I live in Paris. No great deals here. A standard new BD costs between 25 and 30 Euros, and most used ones between 15 (rare price!) and 25 Euros. But it's good to see more movies being released. That being said, some releases will not come with the deluxe US packaging (an example is the Planet of the Apes collection).

Good point. Luckily, I dont have the "gotta buy everything" disease that runs so rampant in the HD world. I rent prolly 80% of the flicks out there and only buy the titles with long-term rewatch value. Most films can be watched once and simply forgotten.

At the moment I feel a bit overwhelmed with all the new titles ariving (about 30 this month), but this is wonderful for the lesser months ahead. :)

Actually, I don't feel overwhelmed at all. Just the opposite, in fact.

Now that my local video store is getting every major Blu-Ray release as soon as they come out, my buying has dropped significantly.

Also, I've been watching a lot of old comedies lately (The Libelled Lady, The Awful Truth, Lover Come Back to Me, etc) and there simply isn't the option to buy them on Blu-Ray. :(

All of europe is getting shafted on the HD-side. The few deals that show up are few and far between and usually only includes the same old Sony titles that's been around for 2 years. All prices are still at the premium level and the 3 for 2 deals still make the BD's cost more then the DVD-versions that collects dust in bargain bins everywhere. I'm so glad thet I got a Region A player, importing titles from the US are still cheaper then getting regional releases maybe less now when the dollar is getting stronger but still...

Another thing I'm finding though more and more lately is even with some titles I really like and wouldn't be without owning are sitting because new titles I want to see are being released. My backlog of titles is now higher than ever. :)

For me, availability for rental is getting easier and easier. Just watch till the price drops. It helps to have friends at BV though and Netflix is also there to see something again if one wishes to do so. No reason dropping big coin especially on some of these titles.
