In google search just type 249.95 DKK to US dollars.

I'm scared of what Disney's domestic release would look like, let alone this overseas offering. I saw the Miramax promo on "Smart People" yesterday and they actually upconverted what looks like a VHS pan & scan master with black bars on the sides for a couple movies. That and the ever-wonderful Gangs of New York intercut with amazing-quality footage like Kill Bill...

Just gone through the motions of buying this and it comes out at £33 (GBP) which is a bit too much for one movie.

I'll wait for a UK/US release and would expect to pay half that.

The HD version of Pulp that was running around Showtime about a year ago was phenominal. As good as I've seen on a broadcast flick of it's era. INK-like blacks, tons of color and detail. So near perfect elements are available.

Yes, the 2.35:1 HD transfer of Pulpshown on cable was glorious. Absolutely stunning.

The cropped version on HBO was a joke.

You mean a movie from the Dark Ages- a.k.a. the fabled 1990s- can actually look GOOD??? Who would've thought!!!

*If this type of talk isn't allowed please just delete my post or PM me and I'll remove it. I feel like it's relevant since nobody actually has the disc yet. I am planning to order the disc as soon as I work out some issues I'm having with AxelMusic so no worries on that front.*

Well, the "scene" got ahold of this title and released a 720p rip. I downloaded part of it and took some screenshots with VLC. Remember this is not from the actual disc (I imagine that they compressed it) but it should give everybody an idea on how the real deal will look.

Some good news is that it is 2:35:1 and the disc may come with English subs.

I checked out that scene reencode and heard a light hiss of background noise when there no audible sounds. This noise was not present in the DTS from the DVD I compared it to. I checked with headphones though, might not be noticeable with speakers. (The core is extracted from the master audio, so it's not the scene screwing things up).

The video transfer used is definitely the one that has been floating around on HDTV channels for quite some time. Pretty decent looking.

Don't get me wrong, I think the RD Blu-ray looks great and is miles above the VHS and DVD copies I already own, I was just hoping for a little more. I've watched the Blu-ray about 50 times or so and I am not really upset with the transfer or anything, but I do hope PF takes things a little bit further as I was not really blown away with the PQ of RD. Either way I'll be buying the PF Blu-ray without hesitation.

I have never seen Pulp Fiction either but always wanted too, HD/&Blu-Ray is the only reasons I even watch movies now, I was not really a movie fan before HD/&Blu-Ray, I know that sounds crazy but its true, I always liked watching things in real time because I hated acting because its fake, but HD/& Blu-Ray spoiled me with PQ, for some reason I only buy Blu-Ray's with the best PQ

if the Pulp Fiction Blu-Ray transfer is good i'll buy it too

Yep, DNR is on the master. Has been on every airing and release of this movie. It's not too bad though, faces aren't that waxy and detail is good. I don't see Disney/Miramax creating a new transfer for this title with some of the crap they've put out recently. So most likely the US version is going to look identical.

Ok, first..dont shoot me for my obvioiusly dumb questions/observations.

1) These screen caps make this movie look great compared to my DVD. Mine looks so bad that I wont allow it on my projector. Isnt this Denmark release 100 times better? How could anyone complain about this release.
2) This is my first question about region zones...I believe I have Region 1. Will this play on a region 1 dvd player?
3) Also, if I cant get this Denmark release for whatever reason....is this release worth getting while I wait for an offical BD US release? Pulp Fiction (Two-Disc Collector's Edition) (1994) released in 2002?

camaj

There's no such thing as Region1 for Blu-ray, R1 is a DVD region. The US is Region A for Blu-ray. It took me 2 mins to find this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray#Region_codes) on wikipedia and the first post (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=15074590#post15074590) in this thread mentions this is region free

I will import if it will work on a Region A PS3. Otherwise, I'll be waiting...doubtful....you're talking about Sony after all.....

I think there may be a mix up regarding how regions work.

The company that makes the player (Sony) would be responsible to make sure the CA/NA/SA players are Region A.
The company (Miramax) that releases the movie/disc would control whether the movie is region locked or not (PF is not).

I watched this disc yesterday. PQ is good, but heavy DNR has been applied. Details look soft and no grain is left. The picture looks very artificial.

Many older HD transfers from Disney studio companies are heavily DVNR'd right at the master. They need new transfers, which ain't happening. :(

I would still put my money on the Blu ray version being better than the ShowtimeHD version. I have the ShowtimeHD on my HD DVR and will definitely compare them. I could also transfer it to a DVHS tape and compare as well. Still, having the S5000ES play back the Blu ray copy at 1080p/24 should look better than the 1080i DVHS or DirecTV copy. hough I will say some of my DTHEATER tapes look very good and can hold their own (like I, Robot)... :)

I completely agree. I would be shocked if the Showtime HD looks as good as the blu-ray release especially on a large scope setup. I replace my DVHS recordings with the blu-ray version when it is released and blu always looks better as one would expect. The audio on the Showtime HD pesentation leaves a lot to be desired. I imagine the blu will be a big improvement in that area.

I noticed DNR and edge enhancement on my 50" LCD. They probably used the same master that was used for the DVD collector's edition. I am not familiar with getting imported versions of movies, but I have to say that Pulp Fiction was one of the first DVD's I purchased when I bought my first DVD Player (Sony, which still is going strong) back in 98ish sometime. Well, that transfer sucked pretty back (along with Goodfellas). This is the first time I have come across a title that "I must have a better transfer of"...

so I ask, if I wait for the US version, with the transfer quality be the same or is it likely this one is better? Or is it just a matter of not wanting to wait until the US version is released?

Also, why would an American released movie have a Blu-ray release from Denmark earlier than the US release???

One more....currently Amazon is selling an imported version for 39.49...is this the Denmark version?

If Disney wouldn't remaster Gangs of NY then I doubt this will get one. Disney also releases less catalog movies so someone releasing this before Disney isn't unlikely. Word is Disney is going to sell Miramax (to get $ for Dreamworks I think) so hopefully Sony picks them up so we can get the same quality and more releases.

Thanks so much for sharing that info Joe!!!!!!!!!!

I was unsure about this and didn't want to watch it with forced subtitles since my remote has no "subtitle" button. Instead of waiting to the 24th for Amazon I should just import this great film.

seriously, you never came to the idea to check out the menu section by yourself, never ever for a movie into the languages field (not that it might have been needed but just of curiosity)?

I don't own this blu-ray import movie yet so how can I check the menu?????? I have heard of some imports that don't allow you to turn of the subtitles in the menu so that explains the concern I had. Seriously, know what the hell you are talking about before you make a sarcastic post like that. Reading comprehension must be a weakness of yours.

Not that the import looks bad (I don't know since I haven't seen it), but the US version should be worth the wait. Disney is having a block of several Miramax films "restored," with Pulp being the one of the bunch from a higher resolution source than the others.

I know there's zero credibility here, but the old "friend of a friend" deal. Proprietary info and all. It's cool if no one believes with only 2 posts (I'd have my doubts too), but there's a reason for that. Just thought I'd share anyway.

Looks like the March 24th Amazon.com release of the Danish import version of Pulp Fiction BD, is, well, fiction.

I have a quick question about the version of Pulp Fiction (Blu-ray) to be released on August 4 2009 in the U.S. I looked at the specs somewhere and it said that this movie wasn't filmed/won't be released in a widescreen aspect ratio only (2.40:1). Does anyone remember seeing this in the theater? Was it 2.40:1 or was it a version of widescreen? I've been waiting for this to come out since the launch of Blu-ray but, thought it wasn't in 4:3. Can anyone please help with how it will be released? How is 2.40:1look on a 16X9 tv? Still bars on top and bottom or sides or full picture? Thanks for the help this is my favorite movie of all time. I don't know how this didn't win best picture!!!!!! Sorry mods, it wouldn't let me post in the correct area.

PULP FICTION was definitely shot in the scope widescreen format (it's actually 2.39:1, for those of us who like to nitpick). This is how it appears on this release, and that's how it will be on the American release as well.

Scope on a 16:9 TV looks awesome. Yes, there will be black bars on the top and bottom, but it's a small price to pay.

I've looked on Amazon.com but, they have 3 different Pulp Fiction Blu-rays listed. One import and two other ones to be signed up to be notified when it becomes available. Does anyone have a link for me at a place where I can pre-order now? Thanks for the help in advance. I went back a few months back and popped my collectors edition dvd in and I could have sworn that it's in 4:3 for some reason. On another note I don't know what picture beat Pulp for best picture but(Forest Gump????), this just goes to show you how idiotic the Academy is. There are so many nuances in the movie and that is what makes it great. There is no movie ever made that is better than PF, except for Inglorious Basterds (from what I hear).

I just bought the Swedish release the other day for $45 at a local video store. It's Region "B" and is listed as 2.35:1 and the only audio track is DTS-HD in English.PQ and audio are both flawless. There are no extras except several Scandanavian language subtitle options.

I don't know how movies like that win yet Pulp doesn't. Did Forest Gump beat it that year? I wish they would look back and see that Forest Gump is no where near as good of a movie. Fools, Fools.

I've done a screenshot comparison (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=16932253#post16932253) between the two import versions currently available.

Can't recommend either one due to video issues on one and region/subs/audio issues on the other.

They are all good movies but for completely different reasons, don't get me wrong Pulp fiction is one of my favorate movies of all time but I appreciate No country for old men & There will be blood. Can't say much on the french one but I have the nordic one & its the best I have ever seen it looking & sounding (actually I would buy it for sound alone :D).

Because we have an expectation that you'll use the search engine before starting a new thread. Using the search this rather large thread comes up about the US release etc. If you want an update, please bump the existing thread on this title.

Those screen shots look less DNR'd compared to the other releases I've seen.

This is the actual cover: http://english.megastore.se/template/next%2CProduct.vm?itemid=2039300

It's a Denmark-Sweden-Norway-Finland release. English title with foreign text on the rest of the cover.

As I said in a post up above and elsewhere, I don't recommend it. Perhaps wait on the Australian release.

It's the typical setup where one-line captions are in the bar and two-line captions are half-in half-out.

I just recieved Pulp Fiction on Blu Ray from Axelmusic.dk, pretty quick shipping i think. I ordered it on 12/12/08 and recieved it today 12/23/08. I live in Florida. It works great on my PS3.
i Would say good pic quality 3.75~4/5 and audio 4/5. I never had it on DVD but have seen it many times. Great Movie.
I like how everyone says they will just wait for Pulp Fiction to come out on Blu Ray in the U.S. but i bought the Danish import Blu Ray from axelmusic.dk and have been enjoying it for a year now. I have had it since December 2008. Everyone who said oh i will just wait til August of 2009 for the U.S. release must be kicking themselves because it is now December 19, 2009 and there is still no release date for this damn movie in the U.S.
