3)whats optical zoom THE ZOOM RANGE WITHIN THE LENS (as opposed to digital magnification, which causes pixelation)
4)what is a ccd quantity 3CCD was always the one to get, but I haven't seen any 3CMOS consumer camcorders, and I would go for a large single CMOS over 3 small CCDs
5)whats image stabalization MINIMIZES IMAGE SHAKE, optically or digitally. Optical is best, and most natural.

* S-Video - Not relevant in HD world, it's a better quality connection in SD, separating color and luminance signals.
* A/V Input - everything has this, (and likely also, any camcorder) so it's handy, but it's SD.
* DV / Firewire Only necessary with tape-based digital devices, for reliable real-time streaming.
* USB Good for quicker transfers from file-based cameras on hard-drive and flash, like AVCHD.
File-based seems to be the way to go these days.

S-Video is an analog Standard Definition video transmission method.

Do you really need/want A/V Input?

Firewire IEEE 1394 which is also called i.Link is normally labeled "DV" on Digital8, MiniDV and HDV camcorders.

USB is used for transferring photos. Depending on the format of the camcorder, the model etc, it can be used for transferring video.
