You can play High Definition (HD) camcorders to a standard TV. The advantage of the HD video will not be the best, but you will see your video.

You can also play Standard Definition (SD) on a HD TV. I play my SD DVD's on my HDTV all the time.

And standard dvd likely will look better on hdtv than on standard tv; hdtv will display the 500 lines per inch dvd (maybe at 480) instead of the 240 to 270 lines per inch that the standard tv can display.
