If you are new to everything you have two options. 1) close your eyes and buy the most expensive thing you can afford and hope that the OLD logic "you almost always get what you pay for" is true..2) you spend 2-3 weeks educating yourself, instead of posting, read and search other posts, read CNET reviews, looks for othe rforums and make your opinion. Good luck italianbull 11-15-08, 12:04 PM I'm just saying in your opinion what have you all come across that would seem the most for what it is nickoakdl 11-15-08, 12:57 PM Considering the majority of the threads are about Canons I would assume they are a safe bet. HenryC_51 11-15-08, 03:15 PM it's quite clear that Canon camcorders are the best in the world. Sony is a close second. Panasonic & JVC are distant third and fourth. Chevypower 11-15-08, 04:02 PM actually i totally disagree. My opinion is Sony are ahead of Canon. I used to put Panasonic then JVC then Canon. I am not so sure about JVC anymore, but Panasonic and Canon are battling it out in the professional world for 2nd place, but Canon has the edge on Panasonic on consumer camcorders. Canon do not make anything quite like HDCAM-SR, XDCAM HD422 or XDCAM EX in the professional market. Sony's Exmor CMOS sensors have worked their way down to the consumer cameras. osv 11-15-08, 08:17 PM afaik, canon has never made a professional video camera, but they do make pro video camera lenses... sony can't compete in the canon pro glass marketplace. lets see what canon brings to the table with the their next prosumer camera... the big question is, will it be hdv? i'm betting that they will have to match what panasonic did with the hmc150.
