Hi I am buying my first HDTV, the Panasonic Viera TH-46PZ80U, from Best Buy tomorrow and am planning on purchasing the calibration they offer along with the premium black-tie protection plan. I have mixed feeling about spending the extra 319 for the premium plan w/ "professional" calibration.
Does anyone have experience with BB calibration? I have searched here and read many mixed reviews. Is it worth the money over a Blu-Ray Calibration disk and trial and error? I live in Logan, Utah and am not sure of the availability of privately contracted ISF certified calibrators, so BB would probably be my only option.
If anyone has any input please respond!
Thanks so much!

As you see from reading a sampling of feedback on BB calibration, it can be a hit-and-miss proposition.

For that reason, you should speak with the BB tech who would be handling your calibration BEFORE paying for the calibration -- you should find out exactly what adjustments will be covered, how much experience he has with your TV, etc. If your local BB won't set that up for you, there's probably a good reason and you should move on to finding an independent calibrator who can take care of you.

Here is a listing independent calibrators who serve your area:

Hey thanks a lot DroptheRemote! I ended up just buying the TV, Panasonic TH-46PZ80U for 1299 and it came with a free Panasonic Blu-Ray Player! So I am pretty excited, the TV should be here on Thursday! As to the calibration I think I will try some of the setting on the forum for break in and try a Calibration DVD then see if I want to contact one of the listed ISF Calibrators.
Thanks again,

If you want to save soem cash i think this could be an option for you. Its very easy to get great results on your own with free HCFR software and an eye one probe:

Here is a good primer on the copying of settings and what that gets you.

Just get a test disc and follow the instructions if you remotely care about doing it right. The discs cost about $20-25 ...
