Yes and no.

Red is claiming that they'll be able to hand out the BASIC scarlet cam for around $3000, but you will also be able go get a rather huge number of accessories with it and it will also be able to use some of the accessories from Red one epic.

What Red has yet to REALLY define is what constitutes a "basic" Scarlet.... Lens and body... or just body... or something else.

Personally, I'm quite skeptical over the entire Scarlet issue. For quite some time now we have heard big talk about this cam.... and that's all it has been... but I believe in the end, you won't get a Scarlet that you can do much with for $3000.

i would love to own one, but its not something i need.

the old scarlet had that 8 minute runtime off of CF cards thing. Don't know about the new ones, but i expect it to be the same.

i don't shoot professional movies or commercials, i need something with more reasonable runtimes. Don't think i could justify the cost. Looks like its going to be expensive.

They'll have to improve the runtime otherwise nobody is gonna buy it.

Personsally I am hoping it could be smaller, at least as small as the other common camcorders.
