I have a Sony HDR SR11. After recording footage, I connect the camera to my laptop computer and my laptop computer to a large external hard drive for storage. I then access the files on the external hard drive from my laptop, so apparently the transfer process puts files on both the laptop and the external hard drive. So my question is this....when I eventually retire the laptop for a new one, how will I access the files on the external hard drive???

You can put your videos anyplace you can put other computer data as long as you have enough space.

If you put the video on an external hard drive, then it is there. If you copy it to your laptop then it als also there and you would have two copies. You can copy it to another external hard drive for safekeeping in case your first drive dies....
