So I bought a used msc-400. Without software. I now know that was bad. I just read all the threads on the subject. Though I honestly never would have expected a policy as urc's. As been asked previously, how do unauthorized resellers even get the product if urc is so stringent about not selling to the customer? I just did a quick search and found the msc-400 at both buy.com and amazon.com. Very strange places to find a product not meant for the masses. Also what about used equipment? If the component loses the needed software it's now a landfill addition?

I called a friend who originally suggested urc to me (though he unfortunately didn't mention the sw restriction earlier.) He told me he bought the mx-980 from an authorized dealer but never received the editor. The dealer was very far away and so he called urc to see if he could download it. He was given a very adamant no. So he had to drive over two hours back to the dealer.

But now that the deed has been done what are my options? It sounds like if I call urc they will be unwilling to help. Anyone been through this?

The MSC 400 software is restricted. Amazon is a middle man and far from a quality online purchase designation despite their plethora of items and appealing pricing.

Your friend had no need to drive 2 hours to get the MX980 editor. It can be emailed. This isn't 1990's where only PC experts can exchange stuff over the internet.

It seems people make this mistake and come to AVSForum for illegal software handouts on a regular basis. It's amazing how that works.

You can always resell it or have someone install it. Call URC and see what they say.

What is the current version of the MSC editor software? I have 1.50, but it says "beta" in the title, so I wanted to make sure it was the latest and greatest.

Thanks

I am amazed that the mods aren't all over it.

all you have to do is google "msc400setup.exe" , or whatevermodelnumbersetup.exe

I don't recall the OP asking for software. He simply asked what his options were.

Good point...he didn't. Guess the steady stream of those who do, just make it an automatic assumption when someone posts about not having the software.

Although the problem does exist here on AVS. Even if the OP is wrongly accused in this thread.
