So I bought a used msc-400. Without software. I now know that was bad. I just read all the threads on the subject. Though I honestly never would have expected a policy as urc's. As been asked previously, how do unauthorized resellers even get the product if urc is so stringent about not selling to the customer? I just did a quick search and found the msc-400 at both buy.com and amazon.com. Very strange places to find a product not meant for the masses. Also what about used equipment? If the component loses the needed software it's now a landfill addition?
I called a friend who originally suggested urc to me (though he unfortunately didn't mention the sw restriction earlier.) He told me he bought the mx-980 from an authorized dealer but never received the editor. The dealer was very far away and so he called urc to see if he could download it. He was given a very adamant no. So he had to drive over two hours back to the dealer.
But now that the deed has been done what are my options? It sounds like if I call urc they will be unwilling to help. Anyone been through this?
