Hey guys,

There are a ton of threads here and I spent a while looking but I have some specific startup questions. I have a Panny 58px60u 720p plasma. When I got it broken in I found a few threads suggesting some "calibrated settings" for my TV. Great so far but I went ahead and got this new DVE disc to try to further tweak it. So here goes.

Should I go to factory default settings on my Panasonic BD55 blueray player? I mean, I already have some tweaked settings in the monitor. Should I go back and zero everything out on both monitor and player? What about black level on the plasma....it's set to light now. Standard picture setting, color management off.

I should also add in that in my original "calibration" attempt I went into the service menu of the Panny plasma and set things to this one calibrators recommended settings. He had used his equipment achieve these settings so I took them to be the accurate.

Another caveat to this is that I am using an Arcam AVR 300 and it obviously does not accept HDMI. I have the Panny BD55 hooked up to it using the 7.1 analog outs connected to the DVD-A (analog) inputs on the Arcam.

These questions as well as any other tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a million and have a safe and happy holiday season.

Tim

As has been discussed many times within the forum, copying another displays settings is not always the best idea. Especially in the service menu. Did you write down the original settings before you made any adjustments?
There is really no reason to enter that Panny's service menu, except to adjust gray scale. Unless you have a color analyzer, you shouldn't adjust these controls. Copying another displays settings may get you closer and it just as easily could make it worse.
Use a test disc like DVE if you are looking for a basic calibration. Hire a professional with the proper test equipment if you want the very most from your display.
