Broadcast now up on NBC, Watching on WDIV via Comcast in Detroit.
4:3 SD picture here....loads of glitches in audio that have been going on for the whole pre-game show...tons of glitches in the picture as well...
thinking the SD could be caused by the wgrz ticker for a storm warning
watching on rogers in canada on a pio 6010 through an SA 8300 box..
edit:and just as i was hitting "post" it reverted to a 16:9 picture.
PQ looks much better on this than fox's ghastly broadcasts from earlier today. baffles me how NBC doesnt broadcast in 5.1
ncxcstud 11-16-08, 08:19 PM Watching OTA in Lexington, SC (WISTV)
Looks great as usual :)

NBC does 5.1, if your not getting it it is a local issue.
Nice use of the two box by NBC to show the replay of the penalty while the ref was making the call.
sorry i meant my local buffalo nbc
doesnt come in 5.1 either ota or through the box
Perfect pic watching OTA on WAVY-DT 10 from Norfolk, VA.
I can't comment on the sound: TV's on mute. Radio is on for Sonny & Sam
mikepier 11-16-08, 08:50 PM WNBC-DT NY OTA
PQ looks very sharp. One of NBC's better games.
GregAnnapolis 11-16-08, 08:50 PM It's especially blocky tonight on WRC-DT (Washington DC) on FiOS and OTA. Yikes. When are these distribution upgrades coming, again?
Sound is fine as normal.
SNF Mixer 11-16-08, 08:52 PM Perfect pic watching OTA on WAVY-DT 10 from Norfolk, VA.

Ouch
NBC seems to be behind on commercial breaks, they only had 4 breaks during the 1st quarter compared to the normal 5 breaks per quarter.
Seeing some blocking on close ups and pans.
ccotenj 11-16-08, 09:29 PM pq good... decent color, good grass... a little noisy, but not too bad... good reds... tons better than last year...
aq, the usual good wendel stuff...
fios, south jersey...
Splicer010 11-16-08, 09:30 PM Great pic and great audio!!! :D
WLWT-DT 1 Subchannel
OTA w/DIY antenna
LG LST3510a ATSC Tuner
Component out to
Toshiba 51" CRT HD RPTV
Bad graphic coming out of break. The graphic said it was a challenge, it was a booth review.
WalterM 11-16-08, 09:51 PM WMAQ-TV Chicago. Looks great OTA and D* local.
aq, the usual good wendel stuff... Yes, the best of the weekend.
ccotenj 11-16-08, 10:06 PM Yes, the best of the weekend.
without a doubt...
think we can get him cloned? ;)
SNF Mixer 11-16-08, 10:14 PM u don't want that
Only 4 breaks again for the third quarter.
n the middle of the replay of Witten going across the middle (incomplete pass) the picture partially dissolved to a CableCam replay and then back to the original replay.
CaCHooKa Man 11-16-08, 10:47 PM ive been going back and forth between the game and fire coverage. im on TWC in LA. the quality is alright. i recorded some of it through OTA and through firewire and the OTA is sharper with more vibrant colors. surprisingly the file sizes were pretty close to one another though.

Quick game, less then 2 hours and 50 minutes.
Number_6 11-17-08, 12:20 AM Watched on KXAN-DT (Austin, TX). As usual, there was lots of blocking during camera pans and rapid motion. Will NBC and/or the local affiliates ever give us "real" HD? I don't care what the signal resolution is; if the broadcast can't handle rapid motion without motion artifacts, it's not HD.
You'd think this would be getting better over time, but it's not, given the increasing number of subchannels and other strange perversions that affiliates do with the network HD feeds. (Like KVUE/BELO upconverting ABC's 720p to 1080i, which also results in tons of artifacts.)
Why doesn't HD picture quality get more attention? Don't all these people watching their new, or nearly-new HDTVs know that it's not supposed to look like this? I've done my part, to complain to the various affiliates and networks. Maybe if everyone did that we'd get noticed.
sebenste 11-17-08, 01:55 AM Don't all these people watching their new, or nearly-new HDTVs know that it's not supposed to look like this?
No...not unless they have seen the "real deal" on another channel. And even then, they aren't likely to complain.
Next month is when they switch to MPEG 4 uplink across the board. Will it look as good as WNBC? We'll see.
coyoteaz 11-17-08, 02:12 AM If WNBC is the standard we're comparing to, this must be the special olympics of HD. Uncompressed fiber feed from the network or not, the Weather+ and Universal Sports subchannels kill any chance of the "wow" factor surviving once the camera starts moving. Also, didn't NBC's move to MPEG4 get put on hold till they can figure out the sync problems?
ncxcstud 11-17-08, 07:16 AM No...not unless they have seen the "real deal" on another channel. And even then, they aren't likely to complain.

just so y'all know, every area is different. For me in Lexington, SC NBC is the best picture out of all the local affiliates. What I think I see on CBS here is what y'all all see with NBC. WLTX19 is a blocky mess in Lexington, SC while WISTV is pretty much perfect.
DrCrawn 11-17-08, 12:30 PM Typical NBC macroblocking here in Seattle on KING-DT, OTA. Pretty lousy game too.
DrCrawn 11-17-08, 12:40 PM Ouch
I'm surprised NBC hasn't figured out how to bitstarve your mix just enough to give us some audio artifacts to go along with the blocking.
lobosrul 11-17-08, 06:30 PM Only saw noticeable blockiness on an shots. NBC is still the worst for football (or sports in general). Saturday Night Football on ABC looks best for me, my ABC affiliate uses their entire 19Mbps for the HD channel, and thats plenty for 720p.
But the main thing is my team won, and saved their season!
