So today I just picked up a Cambridge Soundworks Basscube 12 Subwoofer for free knowing only that it is blowing fuses. So the first thing I check is the driver, and lo-and-behold it does not move freely when pressed in, which as far as I know means the driver is blown. I'm hoping the problem is limited to just that, so that if I replace the driver I can have it working.

So I was wondering what would work as a replacement driver?

Also if anyone might have any other kind of tips or ideas about this I would kindly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

That's a tough one without knowing the stats of the driver, Kupo.
It has a 100 watt amp paired with a 12in long throw driver, kupo..
Maybe find the internal size of the box and go from there, kupo.

The only stats I can find are just general on the whole unit, I haven't been able to find anything specific about the driver itself.

Here's what is in the manual word for word:

Amplifier power
(at 100Hz, <.5% THD) - 100 watts

Driver Size - 12 inches

Sensitivity for full output at 100hz
subwoofer level at max
Low pass frequency set at 160 (LFE):

Line Level Input (mono), millivolts - 110

Speaker level inputs (stereo), millivolts - 300

Low Pass Filter Response: 24dB/Octave

Frequency Response, Hz (+/- 3dB):
LP setting
60Hz - 27-58Hz
75Hz - 27-68Hz
95Hz - 28-90Hz
130Hz - 28-145Hz
160Hz - 29-170Hz

...kupo, lol.

I guess I'll measure the box tonight.

Interior measurements of the cabinet:
14"H x 14.5"W x 14.5"L

Also I was wondering if theres a way I can test the condition of the Amp?

Have you contacted Cambridge Sound Works? I would not assume that it is the driver rather than the amp.

Well regardless of the condition of the amp the driver IS blown, when I press on it lightly it is not smooth free-floating motion, but rather feels like the voice coil is rubbing on something, and it also gets stuck.

I'm still waiting to hear from CSW.

oh, and don't worry about "kupo" its not lingo or a term for anything. It's just something Moogles say.

Hopefully they don't want to charge you an arm and a leg for the driver, kupo. It doesn't seem like that advanced or expensive to make, Kupo. If they want a load of cash I would stick another driver into the box one that can be mounted properly and handles around the same wattage, kupo.

Well I heard back from Cambridge and I am told that even though I'm not the original purchaser they will do any repairs on the sub for a flat $75 including any parts, if I ship it to them. So I guess I'm just gonna do that, kupo. I'm gonna call them sometime to make arrangements and make sure it will all be set.
