I've read many comparisons pitting SVS vs. HSU vs. Epik vs. etc...

However, I haven't read, nor have been able to find any reviews showing any benefits of one size woofer over another.

What benefits are there going with say a 12 inch woofer vs. a 15 inch woofer or a mythical 13 inch woofer? - never heard of such a thing before. Better extension? Lower bass with higher SPL? Or are there any benefits? Why would one manufacturer choose one size woofer over another? (Probably just a guess here unless someone works for a Sub manufacturer)

I'm currently looking at the SVS Ultra, SVS PB12-Plus, HSU VTF-3 MK3, HSU ULS-15, AV123 MFW-15, Epik Castle, Epic Tower, and Epic Conquest.

I had it narrowed down to 2 until I started reading back here at the forums! Thanks AVS Forum for letting me know about all these wonderful choices. :D By the way, if anyone has any opinions on the 8 I have it "narrowed down to" please let me know. ;)

dont concentrate on the driver size ...
it's all about which can move the most air (in a linear way) BUT

driver size is but one factor ...
there's driver excursion
enclosure design
etc.

basically, you need to look at the overall performance and not a specific part of the subwoofer (unless all other factors are the same)

I know some people here have done SPL and Hz graphs for most (if not all) of the subs I listed above. Has anyone done any measurements of air movement by any of the listed subs? Or is that related to SPL? Aka High SPL = High air movement?

How does air movement work with sealed subs, such as the HSU ULS-15? Wouldn't a ported sub move significantly more air than a sealed sub?

in a sealed sub, the driver basically produces ALL the frequencies
in a ported sub, the port helps produce a set of frequencies depending on the port area, length and enclosure volume

again, we cannot generalize that a ported sub can move more air than a sealed sub

there are ground plane tests done by AVTALK and Home Theater Shack you can use to compare to each other (ground plane to ground plane)
