scsiguru 11-17-08, 09:30 PM I'm looking to get an external mic for my Canon HF100. I'm looking at getting the one below. Will it work on the HF100?

Yes it will work...But you must use a 9volt batter to keep it powered (seperate from the camera)
you also wil have to use a cable as the canon hot shoe wont take that mic...you will need to pick up an (advanced to regular hot shoe adapter) esenntially making the hot shoe a cold shot...
I just picked up the Canon DM-100 for my HF11...the thing rocks! plus no cable and it runs off the power of the canon camera...so no batteries.
But I think the Rode is a better mic overall ...if you want to spend that much on a mic you prob need the best sounds possible so go for it!

Thanks for the information. One question though. What is an "advance to regular hot shoe adapter?" Do you have a link to it on B&H's site?
flintyplus 11-18-08, 07:20 AM I use the rode stereo with my cams including the SR12,it will seem big on your cam with the wind muff on but it is worth it.

This is what you will need. http://shop.dm-accessories.com/products/cms-flat
I cannot find it on the BH website....but I am sure they carry something similar...
if you have a hacksaw and a file, you can build a mic mount for less money, but it's kind of a hassle... check the hf11 link in my sig file.
when it came to attaching the viv mic to the aluminum, i used the stickon shoe adapter that came with the mic, but you can buy a bolt-on shoe adapter at b&h for $7:

Thanks! Do you have any photos of the Rode with the wind muff attached?

ha sorry i dont have a still camera at present,i use the sr12 so i cant send you one but its not intrusive,i did have to trim the bottom of the muff to stop hair showing in wide shots.but it is the stereo not the rode video mike above.

dude. i was watchin' your microphone review on my 28" monitor with my chihuahua on my lap all calm-like and when you walked back to the front of the camera after switching back to the internal mic, my dog started barkin' like crazy! lol.:p
i got a face that only a mother could love? lol
scsiguru 06-29-09, 11:02 AM I just picked up the Rode Mic...hope to have it this week sometime and will also be getting the shoe adapter. I do have another question if someone can provide some information. Where can I get a cable that would work with this mic and camcorder (HF100). I saw one in the Rode manual but couldn't find one online. Thanks!
