Hi!
For starter my english sucks so I hope you understand anyway.

TV: Panasonic PX80
DVD: Pioneer DV-410V

Background
My DVD player cant handle BTB or WTW.
If I adjust the settings for brightness and contrast in the player it can handle BTB and WTW.
Out of the box settings in the player cant get 2% black level pile either.
So I need to change the brightness in the player to +2 so I can see the 2% black level pile.

If I remeber correctly Panna PX80's contrast settings just adjust the light in the screen, and it make verry little effect on the greyscale right?
The contrast settings for the PX80 is like a lighttap right?

Problem:
It dosent metter how much I twek the contrast settings on my TV.
I cant make the greyscale right.
I have pink colour in the greyscale which sucks big time.
The only settings I have adjust in my DVD player is the Brightness so I can have the 2% black level pile.
Check out the image I think you 'll see how I mean better then.
It dosent metter how much I twek the settings for my TV I cant get the pink away.
Is it ok for me to get in the settings for the DVD player so I can Twek there or shod I just lett it be?

If I twek the settings for the DVD player I lose the 2% black level, The level is like 3% for black now.
And the pink is like this in the greyscale:

I have a good greyscale after the pink on both picture.

Nr1: Got a good black level, and shitti greyscale.
Nr2: Got a bad black level and a bad greyscale, the grey is just a little better.

So the quastion is:
Which one is better?
Nr1 or Nr2?
on Nr2 I lose the 2% black level and its goes to 3% insted and I still have pink in the greyscale.

The settings in the DVD player for the nr1 and nr2.
Nr1: Brightness: +2 , Contrast: 0
Nr2: Brightness: +4 , Contrast: +4

This DVD sucks, just so everyone knows.

So I need to change the brightness in the player to +2 so I can see the 2% black level pile.

If you raise Brightness in the player, you need to decrease the Contrast in the player the equivalent amount.
Otherwise you will not be able to separate Reference White (235) with anything above it.

No. The Contrast setting on your TV *is* affecting the grayscale.
You might be confusing it with Backlight on LCDs.

I have pink colour in the greyscale which sucks big time.

My guess is that you are running out of green which produces pink.
You should lower the Contrast setting on your TV until there is no pink in the higher whites.
(I assume you have 'Colour Management' turned off in the TV.)

If lowering Contrast in the TV fails, you might be more lucky with resetting
Contrast/Brightness in the player and try changing the Gamma instead when
looking at the DVE patterns. Reducing the Gamma might bring forward the 2%
pattern without increasing the Brightness setting.

I'll test to reduc the gamma tonight.
I hope that it will fix it.
I think that the TV have to much red in it when I watch DVD movies.
So maybe its like you say to much red and to low green.
But who knows.
I'll get back with resolts soon.

No gamma dident fix it.

And If I turn the contrast settings down to the bottom on my TV I still see pink in the greyscale.
So I think it's the DVD player or what do you ppl think?

Were you able to solve the problem after all?

I can't speak for him but the Gamma setting in the DVD player needs to
be set to -1 in order to see very dark details. The default setting 0 does
not bring the 2% pattern on DVE, -1 does.

The Gamma setting on the Pioneer DV-410/610 (-3 to +3) are different from the
gamma in the DV-400/600 (off, low, med, high) and it seems that -1 on the 410/610 is equivalent
to "off" on the 400/600.
