Hello, I'm looking for a sub that is designed more for music than HT. The sub will be used with a pair of Paradigm Studio 100's (if that makes a difference). My room size is roughly 8500 cubic feet. I mostly listen to moderate to heavy rock. My price range is $500-$700? I put a question mark because if there was a sub a little out of my price range I would have no problem looking for a gently used one on Auidiogon or another reliable source. Thanks in advance for any responses.

I'd love to be able to recommend an MFW-15. I used to recommend them, but a quick visit to the AV123 forum shows them failing and/or making noises they shouldn't be making at an increasingly alarming rate. Apparently, they sound great when they actually work, but judging by the number of complaints, there seem to be some real inherent problems with this sub and until they get them worked out, I'd steer away.

Rythmik Audio F15, also sold through Ascend Acoustics. This is more than you want to spend by $200, but still an incredible value. It compares well with the new HSU ULS15. The thing is, you have two important issues:

1. Big room...you need alot of subwoofer to fill that space. Thie Rhthmik is a 15" model.
2. In very general terms, sealed subs sound better for music as they are quicker, and more articulate.

You will want something that can keep up with your Paradigm Studio 100's.

The Ascend/Rythmik F15 is getting rave reviews. It is a bit more than you wanted to spend but that's how it goes.
