I got a new Onkyo 806 receiver. Also bought some Polk Audio RTI4 bookshelves, and a CSi A4 Center speaker. Replaced some old crappy speakers.
Anyway.. I have an old RCA 100w RMS PRO-SW100P subwoofer. It sounds kind of muddy now compared to these Polk speakers. I'm looking for a subwoofer under $300 to go with the next setup.
I'd like to get a 10" also, as I have limited space. 17" width in the location I need to put it. Room is 12ftx15ft.
Mostly use this for home theater. My wife also isn't especially fond of a lot of bass.
I was looking at the deals on the Velodyne DPS-10. Can get this for around $270 shipped.
I also saw the eD A2-250. This is slightly out of my range, but is $325 shipped.
Another option would be the Dayton HSU10 or Atlantic Technology SB-1000 designed by HSU. For around $200 shipped. They make me a little nervous though.
Any recommendations?

If you want to watch movies I would purchase a sub that can dip down into the low 20's with a decent amount of authority.

I know you said the A2-250 was slightly out of your budget, but I'd say if you can afford the A2-250, go for the A2-300 for an extra $25. The added woofer size is well worth the extra. I believe the A2-300 is even a better buy than the A3-250.
If the choice is an extra 100 watts or step up from a 10" to a 12", I'd probably pick the bigger woofer everytime. 250 watts is plenty for the 12".
So that is my vote if you can afford it. Go big and get it right the first time.

A2-300 would be nice but I doubt it would fit into where he wants to put it.

Yeah.. I already measure for the A2-300 is too big.

I would go for the a2-250 myself.. If your budget was higher you could get much more performance out of a smaller package.

ah, sorry. I completely ignored the space requirements. :(

hmm.. ok.. I found a Velodyne Minivee refurb for $399. Really above my price range, but seem like a good small sub. Might be worth to spend the extra.
Still not sure how it compares to others I can get in this range.

The Minivee is very small, but something like the eD A2-250 will offer far better performance in terms of output and extension (and possibly sound quality - not sure about that though).

Anyone else tried the Minivee. Haven't seen many reviews on it. Seems like it might be good for music but not as good for HT. Has a big amp.
I haven't seen too many reviews compariing the a2-250 to other things.
Sorry if this is out of context but I was also on a budget of about $300 when I first started looking for a sub and after 2 weeks of reading forums and researching each possibility, I ended up spending over $700. What happened to my budget??? I couldn't resist everyones reviews of my choice, MFW-15

The Minivee should be identical to the SPL800 in performance. Probably a great sounding, punchy, musical sub for a small room. It will handle HT duty, but it's not it's strength. The DPS 10 won't be as articulate as the Minivee, but it's a nice musical sub too, that will get you mid 20s. I haven't heard the eD subs, but I'm more than sure, they extend further and will have a bit more output down low for HT duty. There's nothing wrong with the Velo's SQ and I'm told eD either.
