View Full Version : HDMI Cable Question?

The answer to this question might be obvious, but just looking for some confirmation.

I have a Denon AVR 789 Receiver, a Panasonic DMP-BD35K Blu Ray Player and some Belkin HDMI cables.

No where on the HDMI Belkin box did it state the cables were 1.2 or 1.3, although it did state Full 1080P.

Anyway when playing a Blu Ray disc with Dolby TrueHD, on my receiver the Dolby TrueHD light does light up. Would this actually indicate I do have 1.3 HDMI cables.... or not necessarily?

Thank you, I think the answer is obvious... but you never know with this stuff.

VeloRandy,

Actually there are only category 1 and category 2 cables as far as the HDMI organization is concerned. Don't worry - if you aren't running a long distance you don't need to care about whether the cable is a cat 1 or 2 rated. Any properly made HDMI cable will work.

Thank you FiberOpticDude. I'm immersing myself in all this stuff, and I'm starting to get overloaded with a lot of info.... probably somewhat needlessly.

I'm only running 4' and 6' lengths. I've just seen all these different numbers like 1.2 & 1.3a, b, c and I just want to make sure I'm buying all the right stuff.

Thanks again.

The cable is a passive device, it has no idea what is being sent down it. Whether it has a sticker saying 1.0 or 1.3 is not really relevant, what's relevant is the performance of the cable. If you have no picture, snowy picture, serious noise, dropouts or other obvious maladies then you need better cabling. If it's working, you're good to go.
