Hey all, new to the forums but have been a longtime lurker. Recently pulled the trigger on the mirage omnisat v2 system along with the onkyo 606. Was wondering if anyone has a similar system and could give me some advice as to the best setup for this combo. I should be receiving both tomorrow and have been diggin around for some tips to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated. cheers,
Darryl

By setup do you mean speaker placement or settings? I'm not sure the 606 has Audessy, I think it does, but I didn't like the result with my Mirage speakers so it's turned off.
Will you be wall mounting the OmniSat's?
Read a little on general speaker placement:
Ecoustics article (http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/34579/129023.html)
Crutchfield (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-bwMhAMQIuN5/learn/learningcenter/home/speaker_placement.html)
And read some of the posts about placement of Mirage omnipolar speakers in this thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=11112488#post11112488) - different speakers but the same general principles, as the "Omniguide" fires in the same way - and this thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=14490194#post14490194)

Sorry, I should've been a little more specific. Thanks for the links Buzzy, but I meant settings not speaker placement. Intence, thanks for the reply. Any particular reason why you didn't like the audessy's results? Also, what crossover settings do you have set? I am using stands with my satellites and have the omnisat v2 floorstanders up front. Can you set seperate crossover points per speaker? I read somewhere that you actually just have to specify small or full band or something like that. If you could share your manual settings so I have a better idea I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks again,
Darryl

I didn't setup the Audessy with OmniSats, but I have an older set of OM-9s which used drivers on both sides of the speaker to get the OmniPolar effect. The sound was somewhat muffled with Audessy, and i'm not sure if it was confused by the OmniPolar sound (since it seems to radiate from everywhere). I did end up using it for the speaker distances though.
With the OmniSat's you're probably going to want to set the speakers to small all around and cross the sub over at 80Hz or so. I'm not familiar with the 606, but if you can set the crossover points on the individual speakers, then check the usable range on Mirage's specs and set it a bit higher (if it's 85Hz-20KHz, then crossover at 90 for example since the speaker go down to 85, you want to cross over a bit higher).
There really aren't any other settings. Placement i'd say plays a bigger role. I'm also more of the mindset that the receiver shouldn't be processing my signals too much, just pass through the source material so aside from setting distances/levels/crossovers I didn't do anything else. I actually like listening to 2 channel music in the Direct or Stereo modes. I don't mess with the other modes, except for when watching movies and I let it autoswitch to Dolby Digital or whatever the source was sending.

Seems easy enough ;). I guess I'll do the audessy auto setup for level and distance and set crossover manually to 80hz all around and see how that sounds. Now I just need to get that TH-58PZ800U and the blu ray player :D. Thanks again,

Well, I finally got everything hooked up and for the most part it sounds awesome. I didn't get very good results with the audessy auto setup though. 2 channel stereo sounds phenomenal but when it's in Dolby Digital it sounds a bit erratic. I'm having a hard time hearing quiet dialogue and keeping it within a tolerable volume. I turn up the volume to where I am able to hear the whispers and then the next scene is extremely loud. This persists with audessy on and off. I will try to run audessy once more and see if I can get better results. Until then, if anyone has any input, I'm all ears. Cheers,
Darryl
