I've been trying to do some research and gotta say I'm a bit overwhelmed. Just hoping someone could help me narrow my focus by suggesting a couple models to check out.
Looking to spend <$500 on a decent camcorder which will be used for recording of family events. My wife is basically a point and shooter...and won't be looking to do alot of editing. Also, have pretty limited video experience (our current camera is about 10 years old and still uses tapes). In addition, don't really have a high-powered computer (desktop is about 5 years old...doesn't even have a DVD burner currently).
We did recently upgrade our main TV to a 50 inch plasma HDTV....so not sure if I should be looking at an HD or SD recorder.
My main issues are HD vs SD....Not sure what to look at. Should I be looking at HD since we have an HDTV? Or is SD a more logical choice considering our experience level, equipment, etc.
And what are some solid value cameras under <$500? Actually, I'd probably prefer to be in the $300-$400 range if possible.
I'm kinda thinking that with my budget, I should probably stick to an SD camera. Not sure if that is wise or not.
And would kinda like a hard drive camera....but something with removable storage would probably be nice.
In the research I've done, I was looking at a JVC MG330 and Panasonic SHR-H18....but not sure if I should even be looknig at those.
Would appreciate any pointers and/or recommendations to start with.
THANKS
