I'm a new owner of the Sony KDL46Z4100B. This is my first LCD and i'm a bit at a loss as to how to even approach calibration. I've a few questions I was wondering if you guys could help me with.
1. Best Calibration tool? I've heard AVIA II is a good one. This is it correct?

How difficult is it to calibrate with this tool? I've absolutely no experience in type of work.
2. I want my T.V. to have a long lifespan. What are some things I should look out for as far as calibration goes or will the calibration tool take care of it all?
3. I've read on the forum that a AVIA BluRay version is out but I can't seem to find it anywhere on the net. Do I need some special BluRay version or will the AVIA II handle things just fine?
4. I'll without a doubt be wanting to play PS3 games in the near future on it and was wondering if the AVIA II can custom calibrate for optimal display with gaming?
Appreciate any help. I've started to read the stickies but it's so much to read that I had to make a post regarding more immediate concerns.

If you have HD in the mix ... a HD test disc would be a better starting point. DVE HD Basics is a good start.
If you can follow instructions ... this should be straight forward. Easier than doing an oil change on a car ...
Now if you can't follow instructions ... then god help you. :)
Calibrating with games in mind only works if the games were developed to a known standard. In most cases, that really isn't the case. If a game bears the THX certification, then you know the game was developed on calibrated displays. No THX certification? Well then maybe they were and maybe they were not. Many game companies simply don't care about such things. As long as it looks good on a TV in Sports mode is about all the testing they do on the home front.
You won't really increase the lifespan of the TV much on an LCD display. Plasma maybe ... LCD ... unlikely. And in most cases ... so what if it extends the life to 10 years from 8 ... you still get rid of both TVs in 5 years anyway. :)

I don't have an High Def television yet. I'll probably not order it through my provider until some time. Immediately I want to take advantage of Blu-Rays and gaming :p.
Is this the one you're talking about?

What does this have over the AVIAII? What are the differences?

The link i provided is the one I should be getting right? For sound, I just need to pick up a Star Wars DVD or Blu-Ray?

If you want to really do a great job read this: All you'll need is a probe and free software.
