Hi everyone,
Bought a DCT6416 on eBay. Tried to activate with my cable provider and they told me that the "M" or "GI" code was missing. Does anyone know
where I can find these codes. They do not appear anywhere on the pvr.
I have the serial number. I opened the pvr and found the date of manufacture.
Thanks
If you are in the US, your cableco will not activate the unit.

Hello Ken H,
I live in the province of Quebec, in Canada.
My cableco. told me I needed the identification code that starts with M or GI.
That is why i'm looking for a place wher to find these codes,
Thanks.

Can't the cable company tell you where to look for it?

No. They are the ones that told me to look for the codes.

Yes, so you said, and that's why it seemed logical that they'd know where on the box the code would be located.

Hello Dattier,
I opened the box and searched everywhere but could not find this code.
It's something that starts with: M40706GA....
One of my friends has the same box and his number starts by M.
Opened his box and could not find inside his number. It was pasted on
the outside of the box.

All relevant information is posted on a sticker outside the box. If there is no sticker (I assume you checked the bottom too?), someone probably removed it.

Hey Music900...wondering if you had any luck with finding the gi #?
I am considering buying one of these on ebay. As a cogeco customer, i called customer service & was told that they do activate 3rd party hardware. (I had previously purchased a "cogeco branded" HD reciever from someone on ebay & they did activate it...) The M # was located on stickers on the bottom. It sounds like someone removed yours. If you did locate it, were you able to activate the unit? The CSR also told me that these units are geographically assigned, i.e. if I bought a unit from the Oakville-Niagara area, it would work (I'm in the Hamilton area). If, however, I bought one from the States or even Windsor area, it could not be activated. Can you (or anyone) confirm this?
Thanks
