I need a couple of HDMI cables for my HD cable box and a bluray player and I was thinking of getting either ...

HDMI 1.3a Category 2 Certified CL2 Rated (In-Wall Installation) Cable (24AWG) w/ Net Jacket - 6ft (Gold Plated Connectors) (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240&cs_id=1024004&p_id=3661&seq=1&format=2)
or
HDMI 1.3a Category 2 Certified Cable 28AWG - 6ft w/Ferrite Cores (Gold Plated Connectors) (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240&cs_id=1024008&p_id=3992&seq=1&format=2)

My question is which one is better and why?
One is thicker and I think extra shielded and the other is thinner but has the ferrite cores. I think the ferrite cores would get in the way if you have a few of them plugging in to the back of your TV together so I am leaning toward the thicker 24AWG one.

Are ferrite cores beneficial/needed?

24AWG is not necessary for a 6ft run. High frequency loss over 6ft of cable is very small and not an issue. So with 24AWG, at that length, all you are doing is paying for extra copper and getting a less flexible cable that could be harder on connectors.

As far as ferrite cores, I've never seen a benefit from having the cores, but I suppose they could give some protection against EMI if the HDMI cable runs near some potentially nasty EMI source. They definitely don't hurt.

Thanks FiberOpticDude,

The only down side I see then, to the one with the ferrite, is that if you have a few HDMI connectors in the same place on the back of the TV and you have a few HDMI cables plugged in to them they could bunch up and get in the way.

Try looking into RIX Labs cables, they are great for just a few dollars more.

Ferites will help with electrical interference. Sparkles are often caused when you run a very long HDMI line.

do ferites help get rid of sparkles?

Most likely not, no, unless noise interference is causing the problem.

I use MONSTER M1000HD with long lengh(10 m.)and no problem with sound or picture .I connect it to DVDO THX VP50 PRO then agian to DVI adapter of JVC D-ILA10K(8m.).
