Sonus Faber Auditors, and I want to buy one sub for music only.
Est.15x19x8 size.
What would be the best sub for a budget minded purchase.
Music only!
Smaller the better.
Thanks

"Budget minded" is a very subjective term. to some, it means $200. To others, it means $1000. To Congress, it means billions. In any case, my idea of budget minded small sub for music is the SVS SB12+. If you can get a "B-stock" model from the company, it's even a better deal.

A soft ceiling, of up to $1500.

With music, the SB12+ can certainly do the trick. If you wanted to go up a step or two, take a look at the Ascend Rythmiks as well as the HSU ULS-15.
I realized in your original post, you said you wanted to buy one sub, but the SB12+ in a stereo pair are a delight with music. That's how I'm using them.
JL F110 since your budget is that high.

While the J L Audio F110 may be a little nicer, this sub will hold you for a long time. No matter what kind of music, even pipe organ.

If that one is simply too large:

These two subs excel at music and can do justice to the anything you can throw at them.

If you like a sub that performs beautifully with music, will blend seamlessly with your Auditors and is still in the Sumiko family, I'd suggest taking a good look at a REL B3. It's just a bit over your budget, but I think you'll see that it's worth it. They have a very balanced approach to their gear rather than just a bunch brute force. With the SpeakOn signal connection tied to your Auditors, the built-in 24-step crossover and absolute first-rate build quality, they are definately a nice piece.

If placement is challenging, consider that Hsu ULS-15 mentioned above. It's wireless and can open up some locations in your room that you wouldn't use with the ol' RCA line in.
