I think this is the right forum, but

I purchased the Buffalo IR 100 Receiver,

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=182-315

and 3 - Wired Home WHIRR-KJ IR Receiver Keystone Jack

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?Partnumber=182-834&FTR=%20182-834&CFID=22498049&CFTOKEN=55689179

I have cat 5e wire to the 3 locations to use the IR Receiver.

The instructions on the Reciever tells me which wires to connect to the "+", "-" and "ground".

the Buffalo IR 100 does not tell me which wires goes to:

V+, Sig and Ground.

I assumed that the "+" on the IR receiver will go to V+ on Buffalo IR 100

the "-" will go to the Sig

and the Ground to the ground?

Until I read the instructions on the Buffalo IR 100 and it states:
"the systems power (V+) and Signal (Sig) use one twisted pair.
System Ground (GND) can use both wire of the second twisted pair)."

but does not indicdate which one. and it seems that the V+ and Sig share teh same twisted pair?

That makes no sense to me.

for those that hooked this up, can you explain?
thanks for any help

I found this very helpful video from Youtube on exactly how to wire the Buffalo IR.

It is located at the iautomater.com website. Just search buffalo and you will find it.

I am looking at purchasing this unit soon.

Hi,

thanks for the link.

I ended up taking a stab at it and hooked it up and everything is working flawlessly. Thank you.

I have the same question as Old above. I tried searching for the video bdesaul recommended but it seems that it is no longer available. I am a novice when it comes to home theater wiring so I need a bit of hand holding.

I've take the jacket off each end of the cat5 wire and attempted to put a twisted pair into each of the V+, GND, and SIG slots (with the fourth no going anywhere). The matching colored wire is the put in the IR-100. When I try to use a remote to control on one the devices with the emitter attached (DVD player, cable box, stereo), nothing happens. Does it matter which color goes into which slot? Do I need to further strip the individual cat5 strands to expose the wires? I'm sure it's an easy fix but I just haven't found anyone to help

Thanks

Unless what you are putting the wires into has teeth that pierce the jacket when crimped or tightened then you will need to strip the wires.

Is there a special tool to use to strip those wires since they are so delicate?

You could melt it off with a soldering iron or lighter.

Hey,

as noted, yes, you will need strip the wires. you could use a any old wire stripping tool.
here's an example: http://www.amazon.com/Klein-1011-Stripper-Cutter-Stranded/dp/B0000302WM/ref=sr_1_5?s=power-hand-tools&ie=UTF8&qid=1304957514&sr=1-5

and I do believe they sell wire strippers specifically for cat 5s but not sure on that.

good luck!
