I see the wood framing is the most popular choice but I have two questions for now. I know the disadvantages of metal studs over wood but acoustically speaking is there any disadvantage from using metal studs, and also can i use metal junction boxes instead of the blue plastic ones that everyone uses. I"m sure there's a reason.

Thanks,
Paul

Couldn't metal studs have a higher and more pronounced resonance frequency?

If the walls are decoupled there is no difference

What ever kink of boxes you use, Plastic or metal you should back butter them.

I buttered my boxes back in the day. Actually all that is needed is to seal with sealant. Make airtight

Anything that will contain the sound will work, right.

Metal junction boxes are usually used in conjunction with metal conduit. If you use metal boxes you will need to ground them and it's just another labor step that can be avoided with plastic boxes.

Also the dial-a-depth plastic boxes are a real time saver if you are planning on thicker than normal walls

A construction technique that combines some of the best aspects of wood and metal is the use of metal channel for the top and bottom rail and then wood studs. You get the straightness of the metal channel, rot resistance against the concrete so no need for PT lumber, ease of screw together construction, the strength and screw grip stability of the wood studs for hanging wall fixtures, speakers, display panels, and cabinets. QueenDVD2 build thread in the general purpose build forum has pics of this method.

dial-a-depth is the ONLY way. I was stuck using extender rings that were a real pain!
