- I put this in "high end" because ten years ago this was a $5300 projector. (shrug) If this is inappropriate I apologize in advance.
- The foam filter on this guy has simply disintegrated into little bits of pseudofoam and black dust. On seeing this after the latest (and last I must say) filter removal I'm more than a little concerned what's fallen inside the unit, so I'd like to take it apart and be sure there aren't any little bits of black that will cause problems later. That, and the fan has been sounding very unhappy of late, so I'd take this opportunity to toss in a new one whilst I'm playing. I can see that through the filter slot and it looks like your average, every day computer fan.
- The issue is: the shell is held together by torx head bolts, and they're recessed the *entire* dept of the body, something like eight inches. I'd not only have to figure out what size torx to use, but I'd need it on a screwdriver that's at least nine inches long. A socket won't fit ... it's got to be a continuous narrow shaft no larger than the head of the bolt. It's the second most obtuse construction I've seen. (chuckle)
- Does anyone have any idea how to get this thing apart? I'd prefer to avoid one-time methods like: chainsaw, C4, axe, sledge, etc in favor of actually being able to use it when I'm finished. (cherubic grin)
- Thanks for your time...

Rag's (damn I love this place:)).
Rags, if it is working now and unless you want a life long project think about using a high power shop vac and try to suck out that loose crud.

Did you try contacting Philips? An authorized service center might be able to help.

- Lifelong project, huh? (chuckle) I sure need *another* one of those!! We've got a shop vac ... I'll give that a go for now.

- Still and all, that fan won't last and I'll have to burn that bridge at some point, but I'm certainly happy to put it off 'til there's no other choice. Meantime I'm still interested in ideas on how to dismantle it for that inevitable day. Preparedness and all; if the fan blows magic smoke I'd prefer to be prepped for remedial action.

- Or, if some biblical-grade miracle should provide me with the financial means to upgrade to 1080p I'm interested in ideas on how to dismantle it 'cause it'll be fun.

- Thanks for the welcome, JimmyR, and the advice...

Jason: I sent them "e-mail" using their web site, but I don't expect much info on a long-out-of production model like this. Thanks for the suggestion!...

Yeah it might be tough unfortunately. I have been around here for quite some time and don't think I ever recall this being talked about, so you may not find much help here.
