Hello all

I am not sure if this is the correct forum or not so my apologies if it is not and could you point me in the correct direction.

I am having an installation quoted that will require a run of 75' via HDMI. It is not sitting very well with me due to the issues with HDMI over long runs and the cost as some of the quotes have had HDMI amps in the line. I don't like the amp issues either.

Here is my question I am going to run every thing though my receiver so can anyone tell me if I can run HDMI into my receiver and Component video out to the TV as it does not have the signal issues HDMI apparently does over long runs.

Note my TV does not support 1080 and my receiver is a Pioneer Elite VSX 72 TXV.

I would also welcome suggestions and options for my situation.

Thanks!

unfortunately, no...

the avr won't transcode a hdmi input to a component output... if you use hdmi coming in, you need to use hdmi coming out...

OK, I thought that might be an issue. Would there be a draw back to going all component from the DVD player and Cable box through the receiver then to the TV?

drawback is no 1080p, no copy-protected content, no upscaled DVD, etc.

Ouch! OK so with that in mind what is going to be my best cost effective solution for a long (65-75’) run of HDMI to a TV that at best and I don’t remember the stats can do 1080i? I know it does 720P.

Monoprice has a 75' HDMI cable with built-in amplifier for a reasonable price. Not sure what you concern is about an amplifier. They're no minor signal degradations to worry about with HDMI since it's digital and either works perfectly or very badly. You could give that a try. If it doesn't work you can always return it.

Another option is to use two CAT-6 cables with a balun such as this http://www.outdoorspeakerdepot.com/caexforhd.html or http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10105&cs_id=1010504&p_id=4065&seq=1&format=2. They claim you can run HDMI more than a 100'. This option costs more overall, but uses inexpensive cable.
