View Full Version : Harmony ONE vs. Harmony 1000
1990dtgl98 11-24-08, 01:20 AM Ok, I need an opinion. I can get either the Harmony ONE or the Harmony 1000 for half off through work. So 125 shipped for the ONE and 250 for the 1000. Here's what I'm hooking up:
-Sony LCD TV
-Toshiba HD A2
-Sony BDP-S350
-Comcast HD DVR
-Onkyo 605
Not much now, but it will be expanded in the future (5 months-ish) when I graduate college.
I was wondering a few things. First is the 1000 worth double the price? I'm not gonna lie, the 1000 would put me at "baller" status in my college apartment, but is it worth the price? I like the idea of all touchscreen, but also conversely don't like how you wouldn't be able to change it without looking at it.
Secondly, is the ONE full touchscreen? Or is it more like the Motorola phones where it's only touch sensiitve areas? The main reason I was thinking of the ONE was for a FULL touchscreen capability plus having a more "remote-like" feel so the fiance doesn't kill me.
Thirdly, with factoring in the prices I can get them for, what would be recommended?
Thanks guys!
bryansj 11-24-08, 07:28 AM Only get the 1000 if you plan on getting the RF extender. I'd say that the ONE is the better remote in terms of usability and stability. Now if there was an RF version of the ONE then it would be no contest.
I agree with brian. Keep in mind if you pick ONE there is no extender later on at least as it stands now. You could get an 890 if possible for a regular form factor and add extender later on

With the 890 you don't have to add an extender later since it ships with one. The 890 Pro does not ship with an extender.
If you can live without RF then don't get a remote with it. Once you get RF then you can't live without it. :)
1990dtgl98 11-24-08, 02:45 PM Ok, looks like the ONE it is.
Now can anyone tell me if its a full touchscreen or only partial touchscreen?
chitown_badger 11-24-08, 04:52 PM I'm finishing a recent HT upgrade and am now considering adding a harmony due to the fact that constantly working with five separate remotes is incredibly annoying. But can someone confirm if it's possible to tweak the settings on specific components with these remotes, or would the specific remote be needed for that type of function (for example, altering the brightness on the TV, or making adjustments to the crossover settings on the AVR).
bryansj 11-24-08, 05:50 PM You can add any command from the original remote to the Harmony either via a hard button or soft button. More than likely you'd create a soft button on the LCD screen called Brightness since there isn't a hard button dedicated to that command. And also in the cases of those seldom used commands you would probably just leave them in the device mode of the remote and not add them to the activity mode. If you wanted to tweak the brightness of the TV you would hit Devices and then TV. You probably wouldn't want to clutter your Watch TV activity screen with a Brightness command, but if you do then you can.
Also, you probably won't need to use your old remotes for setting up the Harmony since they are more than likely already in the database. If not then you would simply learn the missing command, such as Brightness.

Awesome. Thanks for the reply. So just a couple hours of toiling with setting it up and sounds like I'd be set
