Keep in mind theater seats usually ship from the factory and have no papers on them regarding how much you paid for them. When I got back to the border with my chairs I didnt realise this as I am use to importing many HT items that always have the papers and info, but since the factory thought they were staying in the USA they dont include these things. When the border patrol asked me for the papers to prove there price, I didnt have them. They then asked me how much I paid. I said about $3200, they then proceeded to bring me inside and hold my truck. I was confused and didnt know what to expect. I asked the patrol what the hold was. his exact words were. "You say they are $3200, I say they could be $8000... How can we prove who is right!" I replied saying I could call my visa company and have them provide you with the exact amount I paid for them. He says no prob and we make the call. turns out after cdn currency conversion I paid about $3350. He tells me to hold on and goes in back. He and another patroller come back out an hour later and present me with a bill for the taxes and then a fine of close to $1000 CDN for lying and trying to pay less duties... I was outraged! I told them that the chairs are made in the USA and I should not have to pay duty to begin with just taxes. He says "If there is no NAFTA symbol on the package you pay Duty" I tell him it was my idea to call Visa and get the exact price and I was not trying to pull a fast one to save an extra $20 in duty fees on a large purchase. His only reply was "look we can keep your truck and you could go home without the chairs and ait to work this out, or you can take your fine pay it and move on!!!" After a couple hours it was 2am and I was sick and tired of it all, I ended up with a fine cause a patroller was on a power trip or something and I looked young, I dont know the cause for sure but I would not recommend the experience to anyone. I'm hoping you have better luck! CollinViegas 11-27-08, 02:14 AM If you want a good place to get HT seats in Ontario try Stereoplus in Ottawa, they can get you what you need. Also the is "Power" on this forum who runs HTAuthority.com, I believe he hips inside Canada and has excellent pricing compared to hat you will find out there. Hope this helps. Lumpy69 11-27-08, 02:22 PM I sure hope your going to fight the fine??? I've brought everything you can imagine across the border, including atv's, motors, etc never had a problem. All they want to see is a receipt, even a paypal receipt is fine. Sounds like you dealt with a couple of dinks. TheaterSeatStore 12-07-08, 12:19 PM ecd, Have you identified a few models that you like or are you still trying to see what works best for you? If you know what you want, most US online retailers will service Canadian business provided they are allowed to - some restrictions have recently been placed by Palliser on US retailers selling to the Canadian market - they will also handle the customs clearing and shipping for a nominal charge which is in my opinion worth the expense given the headache. eBay product is an option but it generally comes without a warranty and many of the top manufacturers will not allow their product to be sold on ebay in new condition. It is strictly against their policies. Let us know what you decide. |
