View Full Version : Marantz VP-11S1 vs the VP-15S1
Which is the better projector? And does the VP-11S1 use the DC4, like the 15s1 does?
Anyway, what are the pros and cons of each, and which has the best picture, processing, optics, etc?
Also, how much does a new 11s1 cost nowadays? Ballpark figure..
Also, a little poll, if you could buy both the VP-11S1 and the VP-15S1 for the same exact price, which would you buy?
Also, it's been established that the 15S1 is a better pj than the infocus IN83, but is the VP-11S1 old enough now that the newer technology in the IN83 makes it a better projector? How does the 11s1 compare to the IN83?
HogPilot 11-24-08, 06:36 PM Just FYI, per the forum rules pricing talk outside of MSRP is not allowed, which is why people keep referring you to Jason Turk. I really think if you give him a call he could answer most of your questions about the DLP projectors that you are looking at. However with a buget of $3500 none of the projectors you've posted about are really within reach except for the IN83, and you'd have to pick that up used at Videogon. I believe there's one on sale over there right now if you go check out the projector section.

VP11S1 and the 15S1 both use the DC3. not DC4.
About the same performance, but 11S1 is a 6X color wheel. (Beter)
really? im pretty sure i read on avs that the 15s1 is DC4... no? someone please verify.
Also, I'm still hearing both 4x color wheel for the IN83 and 5x color wheel. Which is it? Once and for all! I'd like maybe five people who all know for sure which it is all agree that it's one or the other in this thread so I can know for sure. Thanks.
And if anyone could post the pros and cons of all three projectors (in83, 15s1, 11s1), which has better processing, standard def deinterlacing and scaling (that's important to me), better picture, better blacks, contrast ratio, more natural looking image.
Anyone?
What about the Infocus IN83 of the Marantz VP-11S1? Has anyone seen both of these in action? And which is better?
You may have no choice, as it looks as if the used 11S1 is sold. A lot of people forget to take it off videogon, you better e-mail the guy.
Shark7,
I posted this in another thread but I'm not sure if you seen it. To make the best decision or have anyone help you make the best decision we need more info. The Marantz PJs are better in some situations and the IN83 would be better for other situations.
Trying to judge something by specs alone is not the best method. I can tell you which has better blacks, contrast, processing, etc. BTW, that would be the 11S2. But if you want a large screen you wouldn't be happy with it but you would with the IN83. BOTH ARE GOOD PJs. We just don't know anything about yout situation to make a good recommendation. Below is what I replied in the previous thread.
"Shark7,
There are a lot of good projectors out there and specs don't always tell the whole story. You have posted a lot of questions but the some of the PJs you are considering are not really an apples to apples comparison.
For example: The Marantz 11S1/S2 are excellent PJs and for picture quality I'd take them over the IN83. However, they are not very bright and I wouldn't recommend them on screens >100" unless using a higher gain screen. Which has its own trade offs. The 15S1 gives up a little picture quality for a little more brightness but still under 110" screens.
By comparison the IN83 is bright especially with the iris open. It doesn't have as much of a 3D image as the Marantz but the added brightness gives it more 'pop'. It is a good choice for larger screens or to be used in ambient light conditions.
The Planar is somewhere in the middle and has its own advantages.
It is not about which PJ is the best but which PJ is the best for your situation! You need to narrow your criteria before you will get good recommendations to choose from.
How big of screen?
Screen material if already decided or in place?
Seating Distance?
Seating locations? (directly in front of screen, off to the sides)
Projector Distance?
Projector placement? (back wall, ceiling, table mounted, above/ below screen, etc)
Number of rows?
Size of room?
Room conditions? (color walls and ceiling are pinted)
Ambient Light? (Do you like to watch with some lights on? Or in an area where light is not always possible to control?)
Etc?
There are a lot of factors that need to be considered before you narrow your choices. People will be glad to help but need more info first.
Bob"
One I forgot. Are you sensitive to RBE?
