I currently have a Toshiba 61" 4:3 - 3 tube rear projector HDTV ready, 2001 I believe. I am looking to replace. I don't know what forum to post in because I need comparisons on what would be acceptable to me since I have a decent picture with good blacks. I want at least 60" or larger, projection, lcd, dlp, whatever. I have a large room so size isn't a problem, I just want something more modern than what I have now.
I want something with at least as sharp a picture as what I have. Where should I start looking? What can I rule out? I would like to stay below $3,000. Any advise appreciated.

thanks

If you need 60" and your budget is $3,000, you're looking at DLP. 58" plasmas generally run more than $3k, forget about LCD in that price range.

A quick check on Best Buy shows several DLP models over 60" well within your price range. You could even go huge, they've got a 73" that'll fit.

This being the flat panel board you're going to hear a lot of talk poo-pooing DLP, but if you're happy with your current set and just looking to modernize, my bet is you'd be thrilled with a DLP.

My dad has a year and a half old 720p DLP and it really looks good, the picture is nice. Rear projection is falling out of favor but there are certain applications where they are a great option.
