I have a PS3 and an older receiver with only hdmi passthrough and I was looking for something to extract 7.1 analog audio from hdmi 1.3. I found this one on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=160297385670&Category=73390
Not sure if it really works or if it is a real company. I did find the companys website. Theyre based in China. Anyone ever heard of these guys or is it a scam. Thanks in advance.

Just run fiber optic from your PS3 and do DD or DTS. Their aren't that many BD out in 7.1 yet. Better off putting that money towards a newer receiver than investing in that.

I am far from an expert and don't know anything about the company or product, but in theory it seems like it should work. After all, a receiver is taking an HDMI input and sending the video to the TV and the audio to the speakers so it is separating the data. It seems to make sense that a different component could do this. My concern with the product would be the price. It seems that it should cost more than the list price for what it is accomplishing considering that it accepts two HDMI inputs.
One other concern is that with each additional device for HDMI you run the risk of having handshake issues and this is adding one more to the chain.
