I've been checking out these new hdtvs and really like that "video camera" look on them (I guess you either love it or hate it).

from what I've read, it seems that anti-juddering is what makes them look the way they look.. however is this only limited to big tvs? (40" and up?).

Have they implemented this on smaller ones? 19"-26"?

I've seen a 32" Sony with Motionflow (the anti-judder effect as you call it). Haven't seen smaller. I believe it's associated with 120hz (used to eliminate 3:2 judder with frame interpolation), which is only used on 1080p TV's. Smallest 1080p sets I have seen are 32", which is why you won't see the effect on smaller tv's.

The effect isn't 120hz in itself, but an enhancement of it. Call it a side effect of frame interpolation.

shucks, I've been wanting a small lcd tv with those features (I really like that video cam look).. but i've yet to see one with 1080p.. let alone 120hz.. let alone anti juddering :( from what digitimes has stated, so far 32" is the smallest tv with 120hz (which seems to be the smallest one with 108op)

Thanks! Looks like this one and a viewsonic model are the only planned 22" 120hz model so far (but not yet released damnit). I'd prefer it if it was an hdtv instead of a monitor (need composite as well as hdmi).

i dunno, maybe the price of the technology can't be "scaled down" for small tvs which would make them uncompetitive in their price range.
probably there is more profit in big TVs. monitors are always the first to get new tech though (the first 120hz, bfi, backlight scanning displays were all monitors)

Borf, thanks for the reply! I also just saw your thread on CRT/ 120hz LCD comparisons for gaming. Very informative! Been drooling over those 120hz/anti judder big HDTVs as I've quite a few videos on my HD and do gaming.

I was close to buying a small HDTV this black friday (I have no TV period, need to hook up my PS2 to something).. but held off because I keep telling myself small 120hz will be over the horizon. According to Digitimes, it seems that 32" is the smallest panel with 120hz currently produced but haven't seen one marketed in the US yet. I don't think there's a plasma tv 32" and smaller yes?

I think that effect makes movies look like crap. I realize you need 120hz for 24p, but I'd prefer motion interpolation off.

awsome. i like 120hz for mcfi but don't recommend it at least for fast gaming 'cause i noticed on my tv the interpolation engine easily breaks down with faster scene changes and i almost get more artifacts and blur than before. but for slower games its real nice - if you don't mind extra lag.
try the pasma forum for 32" plasmas but i don't think they make any.
