Hello all,

Curious if any have tested Panny 50PX80U using component vs. HDMI coming from Dishnetwork VIP622 DVR/HD box??

Reason for my question is I am debating hooking up dish dvr box using component to avoid having an hdmi connected to front of my tv all the time.

So my connections will be:
-- dishnetwork hd/dvr box to TV using component then TV to AVR using optical
-- Samsung DVD HD850 to TV using HDMI then DVD to AVR using optical (must connect optical or sound doesn't work for some reason)
-- PS3 to AVR using HDMI then AVR to TV using HDMI (only 1 HDMI in & out on AVR)

My question is "Am I going to lose picture quality or notice a big difference using component vs HDMI"???

Thanks so much for your help

you won't lose much. Having said that, I'm assuming that 90% of the time is spent watching dish, so I'd go with the hdmi on that one and use component for the dvd player.

Yeah, I have the same dish box and the picture is slightly sharper on HDMI. The panny upscales good so hook up dvd via component or just order a hdmi switcher so all three components can be hooked up hdmi in the back (only like $30.00).

Ok - not sure what this is but I like the sound of it. Can you please explain how this works?

Thanks

Ok - not sure what this [HDMI switcher] is but I like the sound of it. Can you please explain how this works? An HDMI siwtcher is a handy device that has multiple HDMI inputs and one HDMI output and usually a remote control. You can connect several HDMI sources to it use the remote to switch from one to another, which is then sent to the TV. They come in various configurations - here's an inexpensive 3 into 1 switcher from Monoprice dot com:

Thanks Randy, Monoprice switchers work great! I have the 2n1 manual switcher that they sell for under 20.
