View Full Version : Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix released ddrheretic 11-26-08, 07:12 AM It looks pretty sweet.. 1200 points sweet?? I hope so. NoThru22 11-26-08, 08:47 AM Actually, when you posted this, it wasn't released, because I woke up early to download and play it before work. However, I just bought it on Xbox.com, but now I'm at work, so ^$&@#@*#(! I was in the process of downloading it when I started this thread. I am not sure exactly what time it became available though(I was painting so I was only checking every half hour or so). I'm going to have to pick up a gaming pad made for fighting games.. NoThru22 11-26-08, 10:59 AM I was looking for it at 7:30 am and you posted at 7:12 am. I went through the new releases as well as directly through the advertisement on the main page, and it still said "Coming soon." This makes me angry! The upcoming Mad Catz d-pad controller looks incredible. Degenerazn 11-26-08, 11:35 AM Damn 1200 points? I guess I'll have to..since I spent that much on "are you smarter than a 5th grader" NoThru22 11-26-08, 11:58 AM I was expecting 1600. 1200 is a steal! Damn, now I sound like darklordjames. Still haven't bought Braid yet! NeoChaos 11-26-08, 01:00 PM I stayed up late last night to buy it and played around with it for half an hour. Very nicely done - plus, unlike old version of Super SF2 Turbo, the computer doesn't beat you silly on the easiest difficulty. Haven't tried online play yet, but folks at Shoryuken says it's pretty good, although occasionally buggy (but not as buggy as the PSN version). Also, regarding price, I'd have to say $15 for new graphics, remixed music, a completely rebalanced gameplay mode and some of the best netcode in a commercial fighting game is a damn steal. It's worth it if you're a fighting game fan. Shin CZ 11-26-08, 01:49 PM Bought it for the ps3. The 360 controller sucks for fighting games. tronn 11-26-08, 01:57 PM the ps3 controls however will demolish your left thumb. it does to me when i play fighting games. i would prob. ask for this for christmas $60 hori arcade stick http://www.amazon.com/Xbox360-Fighting-Stick-EX-Xbox-360/dp/B000V02P6Q/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1227725657&sr=8-2 or if you play a lot of fighting games the $120 hori arcade http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Real-Arcade-Pro-EX/dp/B001GDONZS/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1227725782&sr=8-3 course there's always the option to build one to suit, but that'll take some research. especially to find a way to make it interface with the 360. course there's also the $100 ps3 arcade stick http://www.amazon.com/Playstation-Real-Arcade-Fighting-Stick-3/dp/B001GDQRZM/ref=pd_bxgy_vg_text_b VeeArSix 11-26-08, 02:00 PM ^^ Sweet! I was looking for those. thanks for posting. tronn 11-26-08, 02:12 PM no prob. logicalnoise 11-26-08, 02:21 PM Bought it for the ps3. The 360 controller sucks for fighting games. sandpaper mod does wonders. Shin CZ 11-26-08, 02:40 PM Taken off my 67" Samsung http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/382/16288453kq7.jpg http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/2235/63498608if7.jpg PS3 version off my 67". Plays wonderfully. I may buy it for the 360 regardless. Yrd 11-26-08, 03:00 PM sandpaper mod does wonders. Do you have experience with it, and this game, does it really help? If so do you have a link on how to do it? Those amazon links... It's funny that the PS3 and 360 sticks are exactly the same but $30 more for the 360 version, wtf? NoThru22 11-26-08, 03:36 PM I am returning the Hori stick today because it's garbage. tokerblue 11-26-08, 03:47 PM I am returning the Hori stick today because it's garbage. - I could have told you that. :) Apparently, the quantities are going to be limited, but here's your chance to get a good joystick. http://www.amazon.com/Street-Fighter-FightStick-Tournament-Playstation-3/dp/B001M22WN8/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1227732389&sr=8-3 logicalnoise 11-26-08, 04:35 PM Do you have experience with it, and this game, does it really help? For soul caliber 4 it great enhances the accuracy of the d-pad. http://www.ufighterx.com/guides/videogame/360dpadfix/360dpadfix.htm I ended up just using a flexible exacto knife(way faster and less work). ddrheretic 11-26-08, 05:11 PM yeah I did it myself. I'm not a huge joystick fan so I may have to try this mod out.. I think part of the problem for me is where the d-pad is located on the xbox controller. Yrd 11-26-08, 06:14 PM yeah I did it myself. This almost seems like it shouldn't have any effect... Well I have a dremmel I can go get warmed up. Edit:.....and of course I can't open my controller because it doesn't have phillips screws it has torx and they have like a stem in the center so my torx drivers don't work...PS3 version, here I come. FrankJ.Cone 11-26-08, 06:22 PM I am returning the Hori stick today because it's garbage. I am 5/2 with my Hori stick! I was unable to get into a ranked game, every game was not available for some reason or another when I selected it. I got into a player match easily enough and had a very poor connection one match but it cleared up for the other six. I am thinking of putting an arcadeinabox.com stick on my XMas list but my hori certainly works just fine for this game. tokerblue 11-26-08, 06:38 PM I am thinking of putting an arcadeinabox.com stick on my XMas list but my hori certainly works just fine for this game. - AIAB makes excellent quality sticks. I would contact the owner (Ed) from their website before putting in an order for one. I believe an order takes around 5-6 weeks to ship right now as he has a lot of orders. He also just had a daughter recently, so it might be a little longer. DaGamePimp 11-27-08, 05:37 PM Not complaining but one little nitpick ;) ... Menu fine , gameplay = black bars on the sides :( . They even give us a screen size adjustment but it cannot remove the black bars ? - Jason Yrd 11-27-08, 06:56 PM Not complaining but one little nitpick ;) ... Menu fine , gameplay = black bars on the sides :( . They even give us a screen size adjustment but it cannot remove the black bars ? - Jason I can't comment on XBOX version since I bought the PS3 version. But there should be a widescreen mode. Mine fills the entire screen. It's one of the features listed in the blog comment so it should be there somewhere. DaGamePimp 11-27-08, 08:01 PM Yeah even on the widescreen mode there are black bars on the sides . I am pixel mapped using a VGA connected 360 . - Jason tokerblue 11-27-08, 08:18 PM There's a little underscan. I use 4:3 OAR though, so the black bars don't bother me. I'm not sure how everyone can play with the screen zoomed in so far in 16:9 mode. You can't see half of Vega's wall attack and Bison's aerial attacks are very hard to defend against. LR6AGB001 11-28-08, 01:05 AM I do wonder if this is a problem on the PS3 version as well because from the screenshots I've seen on the forums here, there is no underscan at all. Shin CZ 11-28-08, 08:24 AM I have a very slight undersan on my ps3 version as well, and this is after expanding the screen to the max. Not that it bothers me. My guess is that the game plays on an aspect ratio that is > 16:9. NeoChaos 11-28-08, 04:35 PM I've noticed underscan. On my Sharp TV with 1:1 pixel mapping (or "dot-by-dot" as the TV calls it), there' some black bars on the side, like I'm watching 4:3 content on a Discovery-owned network. Haven't tried it with the Sharp "Stretch" (zoomed in 16:9 mode, recommended for most 16:9 content) yet. Doesn't bug me, though, having a lot of fun with this game. The AI finally doesn't mop the floor with you in single-player, and online play has been smooth for me so far. NeoChaos 11-28-08, 07:47 PM Okay, just played the game again. While I was doing that, I set my Aquos to "Stretch" and the underscan in the game disappeared. It seems the game is optimized for overscanned 16:9 modes and not 1-to-1 pixel modes on HDTVs. A bit disappointing, but since I love fighters I'm willing to overlook it. Giant Robot 11-28-08, 11:00 PM I've got a Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 for PS3 for sale if anyone wants. ogbuehi 11-28-08, 11:39 PM I was interested and downloaded the demo. But I can't see myself purchasing it unless there's a reasonably priced Dreamcast type arcade controller. I wouldn't really want to spend $100 just to play one 15 dollar game. NeoChaos 11-28-08, 11:44 PM I was interested and downloaded the demo. But I can't see myself purchasing it unless there's a reasonably priced Dreamcast type arcade controller. I wouldn't really want to spend $100 just to play one 15 dollar game. You can find the Hori Fighting Stick EX2 (or one of it's variations with DOA4 or SCIV art on it) for about $40-$50. Decent enough stick for the price. DerekinMerrick 11-29-08, 11:35 AM Bought it. Great game best in a while Oliver Dubin 11-29-08, 05:25 PM What does everyone think the chances are of a patch being released that would add controls to stretch out the picture more? DerekinMerrick 11-29-08, 05:32 PM How do you do those super moves (the bar that fills up). And I dont really get the diffrence between remix and classic? tokerblue 11-29-08, 05:46 PM How do you do those super moves (the bar that fills up). And I dont really get the diffrence between remix and classic? - If you pause the game, you can select each characters move list. Here's a FAQ. http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/xbox360/file/939066/54870 The difference between Remix and Classic is that Remix has been updated and tweaked to make the game more balanced. Unless you're a hardcore SF player, most updates won't matter. http://www.capcom-unity.com/jimmyrey/blog/2008/10/07/final_changelist_for_hd_remix Chief Ediri 11-29-08, 11:30 PM I love the game, but the only problem is that I suck at it. I went online so I could get the "Play 5 Online Ranked Matches" achievement and each time I got my ass handed all 5 times. The computer even whoop my ass in Arcade Mode on Easy. Can someone give me some tips on how to do any type of combos? That seems to be my main problem. ogbuehi 11-30-08, 12:21 AM What does everyone think the chances are of a patch being released that would add controls to stretch out the picture more? Probably depends on how many people are affected. I actually have to shrink the screen down to get it to fit. I have the panny 65pz750. So it may not affect that many people. Plus it depends on how well the game does. Supermans 11-30-08, 12:25 AM The Virtua Stick High Grade works great with SFII HD remix..I highly recommend it. tokerblue 11-30-08, 12:01 PM The Virtua Stick High Grade works great with SFII HD remix..I highly recommend it. That won't help people in this thread though. ;) e_e_emarpea 12-01-08, 07:16 PM incredible game. brings back fond memories. now i just need a reasonably priced joystick. Degenerazn 12-01-08, 07:19 PM As much as I love this game, I hate getting my ass handed to me everytime I play online. How did people get so good at this game? Its over 10 years old. NeoChaos 12-01-08, 07:35 PM As much as I love this game, I hate getting my ass handed to me everytime I play online. How did people get so good at this game? Its over 10 years old. People have been playing Super Turbo non-stop for those 14 (going on 15) years since it's been released. It's a regular at the Evolution Championship Series (http://www.evo2k.com) and there are still lots of strategies discovered and shared for the game long after it was released. tokerblue 12-01-08, 07:35 PM As much as I love this game, I hate getting my ass handed to me everytime I play online. How did people get so good at this game? Its over 10 years old. - People just never got bad at it. :) It took me about 2 hours to get back in the groove of combos and timing. I always get a little thrown off by the Turbo since I'm so used to looking at animation frames. It's sad that I remember what every frame looks like. Daekwan 12-01-08, 08:00 PM i love the game, but the only problem is that i suck at it. Chief Ediri 12-02-08, 12:52 AM Don't laugh, I need tips ASAP! Giant Robot 12-02-08, 01:24 AM It's sad that I remember what every frame looks like. well, thats one enormous advantage to have. Certain frames and distances were KEY to this game. ddrheretic 12-02-08, 04:13 AM Don't laugh, I need tips ASAP! Devote a chunk of your existence to the game.. That's what 99% of people that are awesome at certain games do. LR6AGB001 12-04-08, 07:37 PM Akuma was hard as nails. To those who've yet to defeat 'em I recommend fighting as Cammy. D, F, Punch attack works great against him since she sidesteps Akuma's fireball attack. jasMoney 12-04-08, 10:23 PM My super cheesy way of "defeating" Akuma was with Blanka. When the round starts, immediately walk up to Akuma and do the head-chomp. You should be pretty close to the corner, so if you keep hitting jab for electricity, Akuma will cover up and never attack. You will win when the time runs out. I'm not proud, but Akuma was damn near impossible otherwise... FIVE ONE SIX 12-05-08, 01:27 AM I went online so I could get the "Play 5 Online Ranked Matches" achievement and each time I got my ass handed all 5 times. but hey, you got that achievement, right... ;) onlysublime 12-05-08, 07:49 AM - If you pause the game, you can select each characters move list. Unless you're a hardcore SF player, most updates won't matter. http://www.capcom-unity.com/jimmyrey/blog/2008/10/07/final_changelist_for_hd_remix Heck, just reading the story behind the changes is fascinating. http://www.sirlin.net/sf They made the moves easier in the remix version and I agree with the philosophy. I'm glad they put a championship gamer as the game director. It shows. "Here were the design goals: 1) Make the game easier to play—more inclusive rather than exclusive 2) Make the game even more balanced for tournament play 3) Add fun as long as it doesn't interfere with #2. Inside Street Fighter, there is a wonderful battle of wits, but many potential players are locked out of experiencing it because they can't dragon punch or do Fei Long's flying kicks, or whatever other joystick gymnastics. I'm reversing the trend. There's only so far I can go with this and still call it SF2, but wherever I could, I turned the knob towards easy execution of moves. Let's emphasize good decision making—the true core of competitive games—and get rid of artificially difficult commands. There are some players who wrongly believe that this "dumbs the game down." Actually, the opposite is true. Experts can perform special moves already, so the changes listed below have very little effect on them. Experts will care about actual balance changes such as hitboxes, recovery times, new properties for some moves, and so on. Making special moves easier, however, just allows everyone else to play the "real" game without needing to develop hundreds of hours of muscle memory just to perform the moves. It's actually sad to hear that some players think that their ability to execute a 360 command throw is why they are good, as opposed to the actual strategy of getting close enough to the opponent with Zangief to land the throw. Another wrong-headed comment I often get is that easier controls don't leave enough skills in the game to separate good and bad players. The statement is absurd. Easier special moves don't change the strategic depth of the game at all (and the actual balance changes in HD Remix hopefully increase the strategic depth). Furthermore, there's no shortage of nuance for experts. Does Cammy's dragon punch beat Fei Longs? It depends on exactly who did it first, which means that 1/60th of a second timing is just as important as ever. So is positioning, spacing, the difficulty of performing combos, and the skill of reading the mind of the opponent. Easier Moves Overview • Dragon punch timing is more forgiving • 360s throws have alternate motions • Tiger knee motions have been removed • Mash moves are easier • All 3-button moves changed to 2-buttons All dragon punches are easier because the timing window to perform them is no longer random—you now always get a 15 frame window between each joystick motion rather than a random number between 8 and 15 (and you only had a small chance of getting 15 in the original game). 360 motions are easier because they no longer require you to hold up, leading to accidental jumps. Spinning Pile Drives can now be done by half-circle forward, then back + punch or half circle back, then forward + punch. There is a lot of leeway on these commands so that they can still be done from defensive crouch, and the old 360 commands still work too. |
