View Full Version : CRT Calibration?

I've looked around on a lot of sites and they seem to be dedicated to hi-resolution displays like plasma or LCD. Well I just have a few CRT sets in my house. Are there good DVD calibrators for our primitive sets? lol!

Also, when you are calibrating a tv set, do you always use the highest input available? My sets highest input is S-video, so would I use that?

One more question, my personal tv doesn't seem to be able to adjust the size of the horizontal picture, in other words alot of the picture on the sides is cropped off. I've been to the "secret menu" but it only allows me to adjust the position of the horizontal picture, not the size, which is strange because I can adjust both the size AND position of the vertical picture...I hate overscan! I there any other way to adjust the picture so it's perfectly centered? Thanks for the help guys.

There are several Calibrators still specializing in CRT's.. Look for the ones that have been in business a long time (i.e. Kevin Miller (http://www.isftv.com/), Mr. Bob (http://www.imageperfection.com/), Robert Busch (http://www.buschhometheater.com/) etc..) I know I know.. I missed several Calibrators (I will get flak probably) but it's turkey day and I'm short of time now... :D

Check this LIST (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1058269) for others..

What are you trying to say? Do you want a calibration DVD to use yourself? Do you want to pay someone to use a calibration DVD to adjust your TVs?

Yes, plus any lower resolution inputs that are being used by signal source components, and yes.
I[s] there any other way to adjust the picture so it's perfectly centered?
It depends on the individual TV. You haven't told us specifically what TV you are referring to. All CRT TVs are not the same. You will be benefited most by hiring a professional, if you can afford one.

I recently used Chad Billheimer this weekend for my hi-def CRT. His website is here http://hdtvbychadb.com/ and you can find a link to my review in the calibration review thread.

This is my tv set. Like I said before, for some reason I cannot adjust the HORIZONTAL size, just the position even though I can adjust the VERTICAL size AND position

Thanks for the help

I work on CRT's. I'm a proud owner of the Sony XBR960. It's a beauty!
