Hello, I have a question about DVD players that can upconvert to 1080i. My Mitsubishi is about 5 years old and 480i, 480p, and 1080i compatable. I see most new DVD players that can upconvert to 1080p but they do it through HDMI connections which my TV does not have. I have a HD-DVR from DirTV and it is hooked up with component connectors. Are there DVD players that can upconvert to 1080i that do not use HDMI connectors and will my 1080i set be able to view 1080p material at 1080i? Any help will be greatly appreciated, DUNK8009 (Danny)

Upconverting over component of copy-protected discs (which is just about all commercial titles) is no longer allowed for reasons of Digital Rights Management. Some older players could do it but new players can't.

Note that an upconverting player is not strictly required. Your display will scale any supported input signal to the native resolution of the device, which is what a new player would do.

Note also that there isn't any 1080p material on DVD-Video. DVDs are recorded at 480i.

Does your old Mits have a DVI input? If it does you could use that.
