I just bought an 37" LG30 and am hooked up to a HD cable box via coaxial. If I use an HDMI cable, will there be a noticeable difference? My tv is 720p.

What do you mean you're hooked up via coaxial? Usually this term is used to describe digital audio coaxial SPDIF, or to describe plain-jane analog cable coax. Do you mean component video coax?

In anyt case, assuming the latter since that makes the most sense obviously, no not really going to be of much or any significance. HD cable is 720p/1080i anyway, and not the best looking in any case. If there were any difference of significance it could go either way, but I would suspect none.

Ummm...it's just regular cable coax. I was hoping HDMI would clear up the images a bit.

Unless you are using the cable card on your TV, then you most likely are not using getting HD using a coaxial cable. If your cable box is HD, then either use component or HDMI. Those cables are the only two ways that you will get 720p or 1080i.

Does a cable card go into the TV or cable box? Because I haven't put a card in my TV. I think it's just a HD box that I'm using. So I'm probably seeing 480...right?

Your TV most likely doesn't have a cable card. You're most likely only seeing 480i. Use component or HDMI. www.monoprice.com has good prices on cables.

If indeed you're hooked up using a single coaxial cable with F-connectors (the screw-in type of connector), then what you're viewing is modulated NTSC RF, standard-definition (even if you're watching a high-def channel). If that's the case, then yes, HDMI will significantly improve your video quality; so would component video. The improvement doesn't have much to do with the cable type as such, but has to do with the resolutions supported and the manner in which the video is delivered.

You are correct. It's the screw on F connector. The image still looks really good. I can tell a difference between the HD channels and regular channels. I'm stoked if the pq is going to get better!!! :D

Wow guys... I plugged in my HDMI cable today and what a difference it made! My tv is crystal clear. Monday Night Football and Hockey looks amazing... I can't wait to see USC this weekend.

Doesn't everybody have fond memories of the first time they saw an HD picture in their home...
