My brother and I both have 60GB PS3s. His had some memory problems last week, and now mine doesn't even turn on; no lights at all.

Is this sort of thing getting more common? Both of us have to shell out $150 to Sony now.

Wouldn't surprise me but I've had mine since launch with no problems at all. I haven't exactly been gentle with it either. I've lugged it around with me the last couple of summers and played a lot of PS2/DVD/Blu-Ray discs in addition to PS3 games.

I had one of those that died on me a few months ago. I think the main fan went out as it would boot to the xmb, but would shut down when I ran anything semi demanding (games, video). Lucky for me my Visa card covered the cost for replacement. (look into it, as most Visa cards come with extended warranties, and they will reimburse you even after you take care of the repairs yourself)
The problem with a thread like this, however, is your most likely your just going to get responses from people who have had problems, making it seem like a much greater percentage of people have experienced failures.

Launch day unit here that gets lugged across country each summer and has been flawless.

I just hope my issue is the power supply and it's something that they can swap out and ship me back my current PS3.

I use the PS2 functionality, after all. I'm worried they'll "lose" the game that is stuck in there and they'll "lose" the 120G drive I have in there, too.

You didn't put the 60GB drive back in there?
