I just recently bought a Sony KDL-46W4150 for my room which is a great HDTV in my opinion, but when I play my games I do notice a little bit of lag, not a lot but a noticeable amount.
I've been searching online and I've heard that features like MotionFlow processing and CineMotion add lag time due to the processing, but I've also heard that when using VGA most, if not all, of the processing isn't applied to VGA input which ends up in reduced/eliminated lag.
Now my HDTV does 1080p over both Component and VGA (HDMI too but my Xbox 360 is of the older kind), so would it be worth the $40 to get a VGA and test it out to see if the lag is really reduced/eliminated?
Thanks

Before buying a VGA cable I would first try disabling all of the extra processing "features" in your display that you don't need, like DNR or anything that supposedly "enhances" the image in some way. (If you haven't turned off sharpness and calibrated your new display yet that would be a good idea too.)

Did you turn on Game mode on your TV?

Yeah I did. It's not that bad but it's noticeable. It's weird that it's more noticeable with the Xbox 360 thumbsticks than with the trigger. When I shoot (Gears of War 2), it happens almost instantaneously and it's not bothersome, but when I try turning with the thumbsticks that's what's a little bothersome to me.
Any other ideas? Or should I just get a VGA cable and give it a shot?

You should be able to find a used official MS VGA cable for under $20 in the usual places. I would definitely give it a go.

Wow! I used my computer to test out the VGA on my HDTV and the lag was unnoticeable, if any at all. I tried it out at 1920x1080 which was running @ 60hz and playing Call of Duty 2 was pretty great. No noticeable latency at all, I heard and saw my shots right as I clicked, I turned right when I moved my mouse. It just solidified my decision on getting an Xbox 360 VGA cable.
Thanks for the advice guys!
i'm in a similar dilemma - component or vga - and i did notice, somewhat, that the vga connection reduced lag quite a bit, especially with music games like guitar hero and rock band, where accuracy is critical. my tv is a sony kdl52w4100, and i have an older 360 without hdmi.
however, one other unfortunate thing is that if you use your 360 as a dvd or hd-dvd player, you lose all of the cinemotion & motionflow capabilities.
the only video processing option(s) available are whether your pc signal is video or photo. of course i have mine set to video.
